Both^^ raise interesting points. Wilder remained dangerous (perhaps not as deep into the fight as round 10, in reality), which is why I think Fury remained cautious, throughout, and chose his assaults with care - and, even then, got put on his backside. But would Joshua heed the danger; use the cautious tactics? I think Wilder carries such power that it should bring that level of caution out, in any heavyweight (and, if it doesn't, then upon their shoulders be it). And, it should be borne in mind that Fury brings a different kind of pressure than what I suspect Joshua could. Low punch output or no, Fury was still a menace and able to drain Wilder's energy. Joshua doesn't offer up the same set of tactics. He seems to me to be an 'either/or' type. Either he goes marching in or he sits on the outside picking his shots. I'm not sure Joshua is able to manage distance, be as elusive or seize opportunities in the way Fury can (admittedly, the version of Fury we saw tonight was below par, in my opinion - but he still showed some class in there). In short, I'm thinking that, unless Joshua can catch Wilder cold, he's in more danger than Fury was last night. And, one thing I'd bet on is, if Wilder lands on Joshua, as he has on Fury, Joshua is done and Wilder wins.
If Joshua is mentally cowed by the two Usyk losses then it's anyone's fight. If it's the same old Joshua turning up against Wilder Wilder gets slept. People are forgetting just how hard Joshua hits.
Joseph Parker couldn't knock him out, either. Takam displayed incredible ability to take punishment that night Of course Wilder iced him with one punch, Joshua massively softened him up Because Joshua eased up on him. When he landed the power shots he hurt him so bad that he ran away Firstly, fighting a series of professional bums doesn't make Wilder more experienced. AJ's had a lot more tough fights. Secondly, AJ had a much bigger amateur career than Wilder, as Wlad also said when asked who would win.
Parker couldn't KO COJANU either, his power and aggression is poor. Takam had already been iced in his prime by Povetkin and I mean out cold flat on the canvas. Why has AJ never iced anyone in one shot then? How didn't the KO loss in a war to Povetkin and a war with Parker soften old short notice Takam up for the allegedly massive power punching 254 lbs hulk AJ? AJ didn't "ease up"; he gassed and was afraid of getting hit by a badly faded non-puncher. He took twice as long and over twice as many punches as Wlad needed in 2014 and Wlad actually iced prime Pulev out, rather than doing 27 minutes with a much lesser version. AJ's had 5 tough fights: Whyte, Wlad, Povetkin, Ruiz, Usyk and he's lost 2/5. Wilder has had to come through adversity to win more often than AJ, which builds character and he's fought a greater variety of styles/body types. Even knocking out 32 lesser opponents within 4 rounds on the way up builds experience or they wouldn't have thrown AJ in with 15 of them pre-Whyte. The quality of Wilder's post-Stiverne opposition is underrated while AJ's is overrated https://www.boxingforum24.com/threads/wilders-resume.672922/
Still 50/50. Wilder seemed not so granite with punches to the temple and ear area. AJ has powerful hooks.
Been saying Wilder would wipe AJ out since the fight was poised to happen years ago, before the only real HW champ came back and showed big, stiff Josh how to face your doubter. Who knows what'll be left of Deontay now, though. Then again, I got Usyk stopping Joshua next time out, so maybe they'll be equally depleted. Eh, I'd still watch a Bronze Bomber-Femi Dosser bout.
Wilder is entering shotness stage of his career. Being 35 his legs are gone. Top of that Wilder has no left hook, combination or head movement. Aj is fresher looks like he will probably take over in a year or two.
Yeah and Usyk will counter his predictable bomb- punching when he will start to attempt land his money punches with 1 hand. It will be easier job for Usyk than to be with 2 handed A.J in the ring. Most likely. Accusations, fans theories about next gypsy curse and everyone = Wilder's enemy, bad coach, bad air etc. xx months with talks. Like after Fury II fight. Maybe he will fight Stiverne and Ortiz again and then vs Scott.
It certainly seems more likely after Usyk exposed Joshua's limitations, but Wilder isn't Usyk. Joshua is still FAR more skilled at boxing than Wilder and if he can protect his own questionable mandible, Wilder's fragile whiskers are there for the taking. The ONLY thing Wilder has is heart. Otherwise he's utterly limited, with poor stamina and a fragile chin. Yes, fragile. Only his heart kept his fragile mandible from being shattered for as long as it did.
Agree with the bolded. The rest? Not so sure. I liked the slightly leaner AJ that didn't gas and boxed well against the current most skilled HW. I think that's a good direction for him. He might make Wilder look silly. It's a fight I'd definitely watch.
I agree generally on Joshua but think the seek and destroy version works better against Wilder. AJ isn't good enough defensively to hang outside waiting to counter. He's too much in harm's way. But I do like the slimmer physique and improved stamina; Deontay, take note.
Wilder pre the damage he took in this fight? I'd take him over AJ. But as others alluded to, at age 37 (likely earliest they'd fight) and carrying this post-fight damage? I can't give him the same edge anymore.
Wilder v Joshua would still be a huge fight . Wilder ideally slimming down for it and Joshua bulking up for it .
