A tremendous fight in terms of drama and heart. Even though I knew the outcome I was still sitting up tight glued to my screen. Not much in-ring beauty or artistry though, but a tremendous battle. Despite the fight being entertaining neither man looked very impressive. Wilder ran out of gas early to go along with his usual poor technical display. And lacked that one punch power hes known for. And Fury seemed slower in hand, foot and reaction speed than typical. His defense didnt seem as tight. His head movement seemed lacking. His conditioning seemed worse than normal. I'm not quite sure how hard Fury trained for this one. If this version of Wilder and Fury show up against Usyk they will lose. And well, this is as good as Wilder has. Fury in the past has shown more. One thing is for sure though if Fury brings what he had last night against Usyk hes going to get outboxed easy. Fury seemed unmotivated.
Fury was definitely not motivated for this one, this was a contractual obligation and nothing more. He's always been inconsistent and tended to fight based on how motivated he is. Plus the prep for this fight was terrible, Covid, family issues with his new born, inactivity etc. We were never going to see peak Fury and we all knew that would be the case going in.
I can't blame Fury too much for looking like that. He likely knew deep down he could beat Wilder in any condition, and when you combine that with what he was going through personally, it's understandable he'd come in less than his best, imo. But ya he'll probably need to get back to form for Usyk.
''As I always say, these guys have to be perfect for 12 rounds, I only need to be perfect for two seconds'' -- Deontay Wilder Er. Fury doesn't have to be perfect at all. He doesn't even need to train and he can turn up straight off the couch with man boobs and a flabby back and still baptize him in his back garden without having to move out of first gear.
This, and I know its not a beauty contest, but you cant look at Fury yesterday and not be repulsed by what your eyes saw. Last night he was a hideous looking man. The bald dome, the disheveled beard, the man boobs, the back fat, the loose skin, gut. He looked truly disgusting and it cracks me up.
You were always a fan of Wilder's, I think? If so, it takes guts to say this - I agree with all of it, but it ain't easy to be so clear-headed over our heroes failings, so props to you.
I keep hearing people saying that it was sloppy and messy and at times looked unskilful… but its not really fair to compare these guys to a lot of the past heavyweight fighters because these two are huge individuals .. this was a heavyweight fight where both are about 6 foot seven… one was 280lbs.. That is fairly unique.. they aren't going to be able to move or demonstrate speed & skill like the 6 foot two 200lb heavyweights of yesteryear.. especially the bobbing and weaving type of heavyweights… and to top it off they both been out of the ring for 20 months… Another first probably… they fight to their strengths… & have a style built around their height.. tysons mauling spoiling style always can look unsightly but it's incredibly effective & mixed in with it is genuine ring craft and high IQ .. he's a special fighter.
I've never understood why he doesn't get liposuction for that flabby back and those love handles of his. He'd probably be able to make CW if he did. He looked like a young Errol Flynn in his prime This content is protected This content is protected
Agree. And i would add Wilder was also not at his best. Wilder at 215 lb (97 kg) is the best Wilder. He is too heavy over 230 lb (104 kg) and his body cant carry the weight, he has too skinny legs for this weight. His heart and will was amazing, but his footspeed was gone.
And Flynn was a good boxer when he was young, won some Golden Glove. https://cdn.images.express.co.uk/img/dynamic/130/590x/ERROL-FLYNN-OLYMPICS-BOXING-834483.jpg
I agree that he didn’t really want to be there for a third time… but considering he wasn’t running on all cylinders he still looked very good. A new challenge will bring more out of him, he really does fight to the level of his motivation.
