No way. I intensely dislike his persona and his wish to be seen as the bad man who wants to kill in the ring, but not even that man deserves it. Like you say, that habit of turning his head will get him into trouble sooner rather than later now that everyone will be trying to put him on the back foot and the potential consequences could be absolutely devastating for him and his family - he could have easily chosen to become the next gman with that refusal to quit when clearly beaten. It's not like he has nothing to prove, he's had a pretty poor career and will leave behind about as little legacy in the sport as a former champion with ten defences possibly could... But the road to correcting that is long and, quite literally, dangerous - is it worth it??
Wilder wont retire, why would be. His stock is now at an all time high after this defeat. He smashes AJ btw. Wilder has a chin. AJ doesn't
His earning potential is at an all time high because casuals now know who he is, which they didn't before the AJ negotiations and Fury. As a fighter though... He's done. Taken too much damage through pigheaded stupidity and refusal to accept he was beaten and the blueprint is there now for anyone other than cab drivers to beat him. He could knock out a few more cans for peanuts, but his time in the top ten is over purely because he won't dare set foot in there with any of them - they're all too high a probability of losing again for his ego to take.
No it isn't. I think someone else here said that now he's high risk and low reward. He doesn't have a belt, he's not a big draw (even with only American fans in Vegas a good portion of those were fans of Fury, not Wilder) and that one punch power makes him dangerous. Why would anyone fight him if they didn't have to? They've got nothing to gain by doing so and everything to lose. His best hope is that AJ beats Usyk and regains his titles. That way he can at least have the hope of knocking over some tomato cans and then challenging for a title again. Otherwise he's finished. He's also old. It's gonna be very hard for him to start over at his age.
He looked so shot for most of the fight, glazed eyes, blinking hard etc. Surely he’s at risk of serious damage if he continues. In 30 rnds against Fury he has possibly won 5/6 rounds & been badly beaten up in 25. He must be psychologically damaged at least.
He has a big punch and zero defence which is enough for entertaining fights. He was close to KO Fury at some point. He can still get 1-2 good fights. Ppl would like to see him against Ruiz or AJ.
Really hope Wilder doesn't retire and fights one or two of the top dozen guys so this myth of him being a top a top fighter can be put to bed. Imagine him againstb the likes AJ, Whyte , Hunter, Gassiev and Hrgovic who all hit hard. They would get Wilder out there in a few rounds.
