Robert Gabriel "The Nordic Nightmare" Helenius

Very likeable guy. I'm rooting for him. Hard to assess him because Kownacki was clueless vs him. I can't get over the fact he lost to basic ass Washington.

 

Kownacki was very poor I thought. Not sure what his game plan was other than to eat Helenius punches.

 

Couldn't get around Helenius' height advantage and straight punching.

 

Helenius has one of the best resumes of this era at HW. He beat Peter, Brewster, Chisora, Lyakovitch and Kovnatski.
Most of them were past it, but he still has some good victories and brutal KOes.
Peter, Brewster and Lyakovich were world champs at some point t.

 

You don't stand square and in range of a known big puncher with physical advantages. Maybe a bad style matchup but Kownacki needs to hang up if that's all he can muster. Poorest display of the night by far.

 

It was unexpectedly bad, I agree. Like WAY too helpless against not the greatest opponent. Kownacki's beaten some names that you wouldn't think he would do this terribly.

 

Helenius did impress, and a fight with Dubois would be a good fight.

 

The only plus I give him is he took multiple flush shots and stayed upright, the DQ was bizarre given he was moments away from being stopped. Helenius didn't have to work too hard although you can see he took massive confidence from the first fight. Not sure where he goes next albeit, a rematch with Chisora would have juice. I'd tread carefully and avoid the younger prospects if I was him.

 

I hope he gets a good opportunity out of this. He deserves it as he put on a dominant display Saturday night.

Yeah, I would like to see that. It's too bad Helenius couldn't get Ruiz. I think that's probably the highest ranked guy he could potentially beat.

I'm definitely a fan of Helenius, though. His drubbing of Kownacki reminded of a poorer version of V. Klitschko walloping on Arreola.

 

Ajagba is pretty damn easy to look good against, tbh, if you show him even a modicum of basic defense, movement, countering... I'm not sure befuddling him to a UD is more impressive than stopping Kownacki twice.

 

A guaranteed loss is better than etching his name in the history books against the lower hanging fruit? Nah, he should go for the path of least resistance toward any version of a world title belt he can get his mitts on at this point. Time's running up, a loss now is doom.

 

Match him with Charles Martin or Gerald Washington again.
It's the third-tier heavyweight circuit really.
Put them on non-PPV of course, or keep them on the undercards.
Or match him with Sanchez.

IMHO, Hunter would beat him - Hunter only lost to Usyk and drew Povetkin (quite a few think he should have won too). I would also (very slightly) edge towards Dubois beating him as well - this one Helenius has a good style match-up but it would be absolutely must win for Dubois and I see him likely squeaking a close and controversial decision.

But yeah if he could get Bryan or Charr into the ring then bingo!
