Thank you for beating me to this. I did the survey too, and can’t believe some of the reactions to the carefully selected £30 screenshot. It’s almost as if people did it to gain clicks and generate drama. The survey offered a few potential matchups and asked how likely you’d be to buy it as a PPV at a few different prices, from about £40 to £10. There were also a lot of questions on interest in other sports, some niche ones like lacrosse and swimming, then others like ice hockey and basketball, as well as the darts, cricket, domestic and foreign football. My guess: they’re planning to pick up some cheap content to pump up the value for money on the sub, then move a few boxing cards a year to PPV. Think Premier Sports with a bit of top tier content added on. I wouldn’t be keen on this direction, but all would depend on the price, especially if they get some European ice hockey. (FWIW I cancelled my sub yesterday too, but will re-sub for Whyte Wallin, no point paying for three weeks of zero content of interest)
But we paid £8 for the Liverpool card, to then start charging on top of that, for a model that was all about killing PPV they can do one. Premier Sports is much better than value than DAZN
Just checked emails and I got a survey but mine was different. Mine was asking what other sports I watch and what other subscriptions services I use.
I don’t disagree, that’s why I said I am not keen on this direction. However, depending on the price and what other content they get, I could be convinced.
So possibly no standard ppv price but the price is set accordingly to the nature of the fight or fighters?
This makes no sense with the purchase of BT Sports lurking in the background. Surely the PPV Mugths after 10 pokings, yes 10 pokings from 12 Tony Dosh PPV events can now see that Tony Dosh PPV is not an elite fighter. How many times do people need mugged before they see the light? I feel I made the best decision ever when I cancelled my DAZN UK Sub on the day the price went up to £7.99. Game Over
Potentially, or they’re just trying to find a good tolerance level that would deliver them the best viewership/profit balance.

If ppv was all about being an 'elite fighter' Bernard Hopkins or Andre ward would have been superstars. People buy ppv events to be entertained. Whether AJ won or lost is kinda irrelevant as what matters is if the customer believes they got value for money watching the fight. The rematch will do big numbers not because people think AJ will win or lose but because the first fight was a good watch and people will pay to watch it again with the added story of AJ trying to get redemption. If the first fight was a snoozefest that would be more damaging for the rematch ppv buys than AJ losing.
I don’t generally have an issue for paying for PPVs on Sky, because I pay for Sky Sports anyway and get value out of Football, Golf and NFL that I watch regularly, so I understand why they had PPVs to bring some revenue to the boxing part. But on a subscription service, that is purely boxing, where the selling point was they would be hosting top fights for one price a month - to now be threatening PPVs on top. Ridiculous. I won’t be cancelling immediately but as soon as the standard of fights drop that are on the regular subscription that’s me gone.
