After putting on another barn stormer on the weekend, I think The Big Cheese deserves his own thread even if he was on the losing end - he's one of the most exciting fighters in the country.

He is pure entertainment time and time again, his fight with Troy Williamson on Saturday night was yet another FOTY contender. Unfortunately it seems to be getting overshadowed by the big night in Vegas where Fury and Wilder also put on an incredible show.

I'm not sure exactly how long Cheeseman can go on for shipping punishment like that because it'll surely catch up sooner rather than later. I see a lot of similarities with Sam Eggington in that they both love a tear up and have been doing so from young. Eggington at one point seemed to be finished but has been performing very well of late.

For me it's clear now that Cheeseman's ceiling is as a British / European level fighter - which there's no shame in. There's plenty of fun fights to be had where he can continue to earn decent money.

Where do you think he goes from here?

None of us would say no to rematches with Williamson, Eggington or Metcalfe so you;d have to put those names in the pipeline. Fowler is also coming off a loss where his stock has risen but by the looks of it, he'll be moving up to 160.

He will be propping up and saving DAZN UK PPV cards when these are launched in 2022.

Always in good fights and a real fighting man.

He’s an exciting fighter, a true fighting man but I fear for him. Takes too much damage in the ring and that coupled with his issues outside the ring with gambling makes me worry about him. He really needs to start boxing to his strengths to increase his longevity in the sport and reduce the damage he takes in his fights.

He was born with a face that looked like he'd been fighting with the umbilical cord for 9 months.

He's terrific value but I do worry about his long-term health. Getting hit that much to the head could cause significant cognitive difficulties.

Cheeseman is a very good TV fighter value for money for the promoter and the viewing public.

For such a short pro career he has been in a lot of wars, long term it's his call of course and he will feel he has a lot left but one thing I hope he has learned his lesson £ wise after his gambling addiction and he is at least looking to earn enough to come out of boxing with a paid up house and a few quid in the bank.

Too many blow their money and physically no one can keep having wars every time they fight and end up retiring faculties intact.

Ooooooooh the grammar police are out in force today I see.

    It can in fact be a term used to express that they're taking punishment. Given that you are so keen, here's a quick forum example;

    https://www.boxing scene.com/forums/boxing-forums/non-stop-boxing/817971-anthony-joshua-is-shipping-too-much-punishment-to-be-a-champion-in-the-next-2-years

I gather you probably need special assistance with the link, so remove the space between boxing and scene.

Now get back to your colouring in book.

I felt uncomfortable watching his KO again in slow motion the other night. Every fight he's in is a war, every fight he's taking multiple shots flush in the face. It's like witnessing a murder in installments.

He has nothing to prove to anyone in the bravery department. Man has more balls than Adidas. I hope he packs it in.

I don't think he needs to pack it in but yeah, he can't continue looking to grind out fight after fight taking the abuse to the head like he's been doing of late. The way he fell with his leg caught underneath him reminded me of Froch v Groves 2,

He's a talented fighter who can have a tear up but also has the ability to box.

We seen against Fitzgerald than when he actually wants to get behind the jab and box, he can do so no problem.

He loves a fight too much and whilst it's winning viewers over and is great for Eddie, you can't be having too many fights like that without it catching up.

I think we should cherish the likes of Cheeseman/Egginton etc.
Proper fighting men who have given us hours of entertainment.
When you see the cards being arranged now with all these mis-matches you can really appreciate these fighting men.
I hope Ted takes a nice break now before he considers his future.

The Big Cheese needs a good long rest before he fights again, the lads earned it.I worry for his long term health with the amount of wars he's been in.

Whatever Eddie Hearn is paying him,it probably isn't enough!

Said a few times on here, grew up knowing Ted and him and his family are sound as, proper genuine people. The gambling problems means he’s wasted a lot of his purses and I just really hope he’s now saving his money and using it wisely.

He’s very very brave and entertaining but can’t go on with these fights otherwise he’ll have no health left. Can’t help but like Ted no matter what and I wish him all the best.

I understand why you'd think so, but, the way the term has always been used in boxing, if a man is shipping punishment, he's on the receiving end. I believe it comes from nautical terminology, 'shipping water' or 'taking in water over the side', referring to a vessel taking water on board in high waves, i.e. to be in a difficult, threatening situation.

^ This. He got involved with a good puncher too early in the fight on Saturday and just took too many. He should keep going, but box and use his head more. Even face-first Sam Eggington has reinvented himself to some effective extent. Ted can, too.

Anyway, you'd take him into any war. Tough as boots and brave as all get out.
