It's interesting. I think focus and discipline are talents, to a degree. They are talents that someone like Wlad had in spades. Fury admitted in the lead-up to the Wlad fight that he didn't have the ability to stay champion and fit the way Wlad did for years on end. He was right. That's probably why his toughness and talent don't include the ability to do that. Which is sad. Wilder seems like he has the ability for the physical discipline, putting the work in, not letting himself go, but he can't focus his talent to apply it to strategy as Fury can. As wild as he is and everyone knows his technique gets, I believe he has the physical talent to be far better with consistency, but it's a mental issue. He's like Gatti. He's well-trained, he does know what he's doing, but he's too hotheaded to use it consistently. He reminds me of Jermain Taylor a little, even though he hasn't beem as good on his default mode at all. But I remember Steward saying Taylor had all this talent and when told what to do, he yes sir'd and no sir'd and walked out of the corner with the intention and the physical ability to do something, but couldn't keep it from flying out the window when the fists started flying and that's Wilder, to me. So, in a way, I agree, he called something here but using my framing, I take another view of their toughness and talent. Which is why I'd take Joshua and Usyk any day to these two, and feel Fury can't be considered the guy who took over and dominated, because he's not dominating. Nobody has held on long enough to be dominant, but Joshua is more the face of post-Wlad heavyweight boxing than Fury, because even through loss, he's actually been doing those fights over and over.
His championing of Fury and Wilder, alongside his reservation towards Price, has aged like a damn Chateau Margaux.
I sure didn’t. Back then I thought he had a really ironic name. “Frankenstein Pillowfist” would be more appropriate I said lol
Tyson Fury was a self uppercutting joke back then. Who would have thought he had it in him? Manny had a boxing prophets eyes in that regard.
Amazing insight. How we miss you Emanuel. But he did miss a trick here, he got 2 out of 3. He missed the one man above them all. One ruler, one true king, to find them and rule them all, USYK
