I know many criticize Larry's opposition but unlike Lennox Lewis, he never got Kod by lower tier opposition in the early rounds of a championship fight, not once but TWICE. Somehow this is all forgotten cause he avenged these losses (The McCall rematch shouldn't have been sanctioned and it's hard to give Lennox Lewis much credit for that fight). I know styles make fights but look at what an old Larry Holmes did to Ray Mercer vs what a young Lennox Lewis did vs Ray Mercer. It's night and day. The same can be said for Oliver McCall as he knocked Lennox out with 1 punch in the 2nd round (Albeit controversial stoppage) and Larry almost beat him at age 45. They both beat ATG past their primes as their best wins (Norton & Holyfield) beat other ATG when they were WAY past their primes (Ali and Tyson, although Tyson was less shot) and for the most part, had the same level of opposition for the rest of their fights with the exception of Vitali Klitschko who Lennox struggled with. Larrys run was longer and with no losses. The main difference between Larry and Lennox is their recovery ability as Larry could get up even from an Earnie Shavers right hand and come back to win. If Lennox got hit by a bomb like that the fight is over.
You are correct. I have made the point, asked the same question many times. Apparently, Lewis "beat better opposition", according to some. Which doesn't quite add up, because ... well, he didn't.
They do? I'm pretty sure the majority here don't. Lennox was an amazingly great fighter. But the knockouts by (at best) second-raters and his lack of a consummate win over past-it Holyfield hold him back from being considered in top 5 ATGs imo. I do have him at #6, above Tyson, Wlad, Marciano, Frazier
Because he was better? Holmes has become overrated over the past 20 years or so. Lennox is finally getting the credit he deserves.
Is it a UK thing. Cause I'm getting the feeling that people from the UK pump him up cause they don't have any other heavyweights to pump up. Besides isn't he really Canadian?
I'm asking cause I'm not from there. Do you think he's overrated by UK fans because they never had a great heavyweight champion before him?
no thats not about it liar he was tougher and knew how to outbox better could go a whole fight doing it and was able to take single shots without just folding or being out cold why dont you watch his matches
dont know how lennox could be overrated the best skilled tallest hw ever how is that overrated when its true this site is odd
