If you watch the documentary on Ali and Holmes and listen to Muhammed speak he sounds like a guy with a .16 blood alcohol in his system behind the wheel at 1 AM.

If I don't do it someone else will, has never been a valid justification imo.

Sound point, that might have done it - it just may have worked, but we'll never know.

Totally agree with you. I was a kid when Ali fought Holmes. I don't claim to have been a precocious kid. I definitely wasn't. But even I could see that there was something alarmingly wrong with Ali's speech in 1980. He was getting his brains beaten in by his sparring partners, we've since learned. Shame on Dundee and all those other grubby hangers on.

With you on this. I've seen/read a fair bit about Dundee. I think he was a shark. An avuncular one but still a shark.

Exactly. What has Pacheco's (alleged) alcoholism got to do with anything?

I hear a lot of "He would have found somebody else" True, perhaps but that means nothing, It just helps him sleep better at night, taking money off a man with brain damage who considers you a friend and letting him go in there knowing he was damaged is sad, roach like behaviour.

    Good post. I agree totally.

Dundee had Ali's interests at heart but could n't bring himself to walk away.

Angelo said that it was because he was Ellis' manager as well as trainer. He had Muhammad's blessing, apparently.

Absolutely. He'd made enough money off the back of Ali, hadn't he? Ali's fights with Holmes and Berbick should never have happened.
