Others have written about the plans of DAZN beyond boxing and how this will effect them, so I won't go into that. I think Hearn and DAZN will be fine. Long term, Matchroom's stock may drop somewhat, but Hearn will probably always own a decent slice of British and world boxing if he wants. The guy knows the business, and more importantly, he is more of a businessman/promoter of a product than an out and out boxing man. This will help him. He knows how to sell a product, whether it is good or bad. People are always saying a new promoter/venture will quickly tank. They said it about PBC, and they even said it about Hearn when he first took over Matchroom Boxing. He was just a young, inexperienced posh boy who would struggle in the cutthroat world of professional boxing. Things didn't quite turn out that way. An important factor in how it will go between Sky / Boxxer and DAZN / Matchroom is how well Boxxer treats it's fighters. Hearn for all of his faults pays his fighters well, pays then all that they are owed, and pays them on time. If Boxxer do the same, they could nick fighters of Hearn. If they are more like Frank Warren, they will struggle long-term to acquire and hold fighters.
Mikey Garcia has had a fortune out of him. The money that was thrown about in the States is not sustainable.
going to leave dazn at end of december...sky have a good lot of free boxing...i will use my 7.99 fee to put towards the ppv that i will watch in 2022...cant see too much going on until april anyway..shame but i know that once hearns has done a ppv on dazn it will become the normal
I do wonder if DAZN got from Matchroom what they thought they were paying for what with the fighters only on fight by fight deals and those with longer contracts that have now ended with them going elsewhere.
That´s a very good point. How will BOXXER treat the boxers ? Eddie Hearn always pays the boxers on time and they earn good money at Matchroom. I heard lots about Sauerland paying the boxers in the World Boxing Super Series very late.
A deal structured similar to that could be the way ahead. If BT have the option to transfer tv rights, then they could do a deal were DAZN buy those that are successful, and BT could leave the toxic tv rights deals and other debts in BT Sport and fold it as a going concern. BT holding group will be first secure creditor no doubt, meaning they would get money back of DAZN. The latter being happy they dont need to take the profit losing parts of BT, or any debts on. Win Win. But only possible if football eg rights can be transferred.
