Hmmm.... Used to be on the bottom half of the top ten, now just outside of it. 20+ years have passed since his prime.
I have him 3rd behind ali and Louis in terms of greatness and resume. He's not quite 3rd h2h bc of size disadvantages but in terms of favorite hw hes my number 1 based on who made the most entertaining fights
Holyfield doesn't belong in the Top 5 let alone Top 3. I have him at number 9 below Foreman and above Frazier.
He only lost once in his prime and he avenged that loss to Bowe. After that he was in decline but so good that he remained competitive for another 15 years at elite level and that says it all. Nobody had an easy night with Holyfield even when he was over a decade past his best. Holyfields prime years were 1989-1992, after that he was slipping. Beats Mercer in ‘95, Tyson in ‘96 and ‘97 and was was still good enough to give prime Lewis fits in 1999. He was even robbed against Valuev as late as ‘08 and looked more convincing than prime Haye did against him. Prime Holyfield is a head to head nightmare for anyone in history and easily sits in my top 5
Prime Bowe is an even bigger nightmare for anyone in history, that don't make him top 5 though. At least not in terms of greatness
But Holyfield was a PED user and was accused of headbutting by a plethora of opponents. Evan Fields will forever be linked with performance enhancing drugs. Greatest Cruiserweight of all time. At heavyweight I don't rate him too highly Head-2-Head. But he was a warrior and was part of the greatest heavyweight fight of the 80's when he cup checked, nut crunched and butted Michael Dokes on the way to that 10th round TKO. Resume and accomplishments I currently have Joe Frazier at #10, Holyfield at #11 and Liston at #12.
You're talking for both sides of your mouth. Yes his key wins were over Tyson and Mercer, but he also lost Moorer around the same time. Bowe whipped his rear end in the first fight and got the Ko in the third. Truly great fighters, any one of them don't lose a fight series to anyone. Can you name one? See my point? The of that PED abuse clouds his legacy.
