Lately a bunch of people newer to the sport are calling every left hook a "check left hook".

A check hook is a very specific punch, it's not just a counter hook.


"Educated lead hand" - maybe they just know how to box?

"Check hook"...

It makes me cringe every time I hear someone say it. It's so stupid.

I would say it or accept it if used properly, but people don't know what it is. Now literally any hook thrown is a check hook to some people.

The term became popular with the Mayweather vs Hatton fight.
Mayweather said it post fight in the ring and it stuck with the moron fans...
