I am quite aware of shadow's affinity towards Canelo, I have after all been quietly scouring the forums and this seems to be a recurring statements made by fellow posters about shadow and his 'healthy' obsession with Canelo.
It's simple, Canelo is the toppermost of the poppermost, as John Lennon used to say, and when you're at the top you will get an extra amount of haters coming out of the woodworks.
When he was coming up I think he was quite popular but over time things have resulted in some fans souring towards him, me being one of them. The close decisions such as Lara and Trout I think started it. I personally thought he won both those fights but I think after those fights I think the idea that he was protected started to surface and become a common theme. Then of course the GGG fights only added to the idea you needed to knock him out to get a draw. I again personally thought he drew the first fight and won the 2nd fight. Then we have the catch weights, dehydration clauses, short training camps that kind of goes against the warrior mentality so many fans admire especially from Mexican fighters. He was using his position to leverage advantages of his opponents and so it wasn't seen as fair and again added to the idea he was in a privileged position and protected. Then we had the failed doping test. Regardless of what you think if he was dirty or clean what really soured him to me was how everyone bent over backwards to ensure he was cleared. The WBC made a statement even before an investigation basically claiming his innocence when nothing had really been uncovered. The short ban period too only added to the idea Canelo couldn't be touched, he was protected from upon high by the boxing establishment, one rule for him another for everyone else. But if were honest Canelo is clearly very popular he's the biggest draw in boxing for a reason. He has his detractors like any other top boxer but there's definitely plenty of controversy surrounding his career.
People dont like to see unfair advantages given to the same guy over and over again. Canelo is a terrific fighter, I like to watch his fights for study purposes, but I dont get excited for his fights anymore, not after GGG. Every fight he has the cards stacked massively in his favour. It destroys the even playing field that sports competitions are based on.
Absolute wars both fights were, I personally love Canelo, his skills are spectacular. I had GGG ahead in the first and Canelo ahead in the second. I recommend a man by the name of Naoya Inoue, he's in the smaller divisions (bantamweight to be exact). Watch his fights with Donaire and you'll be a fan!
Previous posters already mentioned everything. My subjective opinion, that he become overly agressive outside the ring and arrogant, but not in a funny way like Fury.
A lot of people hate Canelo because he has been very successful and made a lot of money. Unfortunately this is what happens and the Eastside boxing forum is no different in that there are many posters here who hate the likes of Canelo, Floyd Mayweather, Andre Ward and AJ with a passion. What do they all have in common is tremendous success and making a lot of money. The hatred of Canelo if you think about it is in fact a compliment. The thing I love about Canelo is he literally does not give a ****. If you cannot appreciate Rigondeaux boxing ability then boxing I don’t think is the right sport for you. Best you stick to MMA or watch tapes of the Arturo Gatti vs Mickey Ward trilogy but I am not sure boxing is for you.
He didn’t murder his sparring partner it was just a story. The guys wife even said Canelo didn’t kill him
Canelo Alvarez vacated his WBC title to avoid prime(ish) Golovkin. That was a shameful move on his part, I can't understand how hardcore boxing fans can support him after that blatant duck.
You just do not realize the difference in hating someone & purely having no respect for that person. Sorry if it offends you but you are wrong. I cannot respect any man that blatantly cheats in order to get "success". Canelo, Floyd & Ward all 3 fall into that category. Worse even than that is the State Commissions see this happening & totally ignore it. Judges turn in totally ludicrous scorecards for fights & the Commissions look the other way & some just laugh. Referees sometimes are blatantly biased toward one fighter & same thing applies. The State Commissions ignore it all because in my honest opinion all they care about is bringing in the $$$$$$$$ ignoring the fact theyre destroying the greatest sport of all by doing it. As my old friend Randall Tex Cobb once said " Boxing is the greatest sport in the world because it takes a team effort to get a fighter ready for the ring BUT when that bell rings your corner men climb down the steps to safety. Its your ass that's on the line & yours alone Darlin'
