What if: Jim Corbett with high definition color film vs Bob Fitzsimmons

Perhaps the sketch artists used their free licence to impose some taste, something that was beyond Corbett’s own sensibilities.

Actually, there were quite a few misrepresentations in the form of art as it related to boxing. I think one drawing had Corbett and Mitchell coming to grips bare fisted when in fact they wore gloves.

Also, there are some photos where they clearly coloured in some shorts on certain fighters. In Jack Johnson’s case, they even coloured in a singlet over his bare torso, Jack’s bare chest somehow being more risqué than the attire of the galavanting thong boy.

 

Additional footage would help us a lot to understand the nuances of Fitz style by the way. A lot of things he did look odd, but I'm sure that watching him against Maher, Sharkey or Ruhlin would answer a lot of questions.

Because Corbett started to gas after the 6th round. More punches landed by Fitz made his footwork less and less reliable.
