It is a shame he is remembered primarily for the ugliness surrounding his fight with Hagler. There was a lot more to Alan Minter than that.
Great shame the way he has been crucified over the years for a (as you aptly describe it) throwaway remark that I am sure was not truly representative of the man. My guess is that there are very few true racists among boxers. Who hasn't said things that they instantly regret? It is heartening to see that there are at least some boxing fans who salute Alan Minter for the brave, talented, charismatic champion that he was.
