hi, it's me again. i've decided in order to improve my knowledge of the sport, i'm going to try to get 2 or 4 other people from the forum to score a classic boxing match along with me, anyone who wants to join please let me know in this thread or dm me. does anyone have any suggestions for a good fight? preferrably it would fit these criteria: - good quality so i can see if the punches are clean - goes the distance - notable boxers - neither me nor the others have seen the fight if anyone has any suggestions please say so. happy boxing!
Check out the Scorecard thread stickied up top. Just click on a random page and start reading, there are thousands of recommendations in there. But if you're in a gang it should be a vote.
well i don't have any select people yet. i'm posting it here also to find out who's interested in joining me. i need either 2 or 4 people, but i don't wanna inconvenience anyone
If you are as inexperienced in boxing as you say you are, I’m game even if it’s just to see what you come up with.
awesome! that's 2 of 5 including me now. i've been hearing a lot about this george fella, maybe he'll be down
I've not really got enough time most weeks to make this a constant thing like I could when I was working, but I'd pop in and score a one off, or do a few every now and then. I'll read through your other thread now and see what sort of fight you might like. I've been tagged five times in those threads lol
i see. as of now i'm only doing one. i'm planning on doing it today, so if that works that's great. if not, i wish i could reschedule but i have school the rest of the week and the week after i'm the ringbearer at the wedding and i have to interact with my family.
do you know anyone who might want to join me in scoring a fight? including myself i have 2/5 judges so far (i'm differing from the usual 3)
Do you want it to be a close / controversial or clear / dominant performance? I was going to suggest either Canelo - GGG 1 or Duran - Hagler for bouts with some subjective, somewhat challenging rounds to score but an overall (mostly) clear consensus on who won the fight. But you won't really find anyone here who hasn't watched these yet (maybe you have as well). Idk what to suggest to be honest. I never thought about what I chose to score before. I just dove right in, but only after learning about proper scoring criteria and reading dozens of other scores and analysis. I'd second McGrain's recommendation to go to the scorecard thread. There you can find fights you like the sound of on that thread and even compare your scores and talk to other posters about how they got those scores etc. I used to do that with phillyphan, scar, jel etc when I was first scoring.
i'd say in the middle, something that's up in the air for a while but in the end has a guy winning by a couple rounds. so i'd say like 7.7/10 for closeness.
Basing it off your list, I'd say you're a fan of heavyweights. So I don't think we should do any of them, since you're likely gonna wind up watching those anyway. A half decent, and very polarising chess match is Lupe Pintor's fight with Carlos Zarate. It's extremely controversial, and a good showing of skills from both. Especially Zarate. It went the full distance, both were all-time great bantamweights (and your list didn't have any fighters from 118 iirc). It's not a great fight but it's a good chess match. i'll take your word for it. tbh i'm looking for featherweight and above, since i'm trying to start off with some big-name boxers.
