I think he's tried, but the heart of the matter is that I don't think Brix understands how fringe boxing is, by mainstream pop culture standards. This isn't the NBA. Regular people that aren't into boxing have maybe heard Canelo's name but outside Mexico aren't likely to automatically know his face like they would Lebron's. They might've seen those beer commercials he was in but not made the connection that it was him. Etc.

If the average forum poster knows who you are, you're for all intents and purposes a star under the boxing umbrella. So...most contenders.

Fame in a general sense isn't a great metric here.

OP stated no champs, no huge names without belts.

To me that's guys like Porter, Chocolatito, Canelo, Fury, AJ, Ortiz, Loma, Garcia, etc.

Where as guys like Campbell Hatton definitely fall into the category of "not too famous"

Champs, former champs, and guys who are obviously on track to be a champ.

I guess I’d have to say Derevyanchenko. Comes up a bit short in close fights but always enjoy his boxing style.

Depends on what you mean my general public and location.
He's virtually a star in Japan and is always appearing in variety shows and giving interviews. I don't think anybody doesn't know who he is.

In the US on the other hand...

I'm not confident about the definition of star. Would you consider Gonzalez and Estrada stars? If not then add them to my list.

They will be stars in my opinion but they are not stars right now..

Boots Ennis, Ortiz Jr, Brandon Figueroa.

I will get out of bed over here in the Uk to watch those 3.

Micky Ward - never champ. Star? I'd argue he's far more of a household name than a good many titlists.

Vergil Ortiz, similar to Jaron Ennis. Want to see if he is the real deal of the division.
