Do we just not care that much about title defense streaks?

I rather see a Non-title fight between two top fighters than to see a champion defend his title against a string of no hopers.

So, guys who are unknown or unpopular should not get a title shot against a cash cow if rated #1 mandatory. Figures you would buy in to that. You've only followed mainstream cash cows.

Again, I rather watch the two top fighters in a division fight, than to watch a no hoper get beaten to a pulp against a top fighter.

I said nothing about the #1 not getting a shot, I said I prefer. And what is this cash cow thing your talking about? BTW not every champion is a cash cow doof.

What's this cash cow thing? Isal...don't ask me dumb questions, OK? You know exactly what I meant by that since I've said that to you about a thousand times. 900+ which you've responded to. ;)

Whether anyone likes it or not, rankings are there for a reason. They aren't perfect by any means. But it's these rankings that sometimes allow an unknown to get their only shot at a belt.

The MW title is held to be 'The Title', most respected of the weight classes as it straddles the average weight/size of most men on the planet. That is why the reigns of Hagler, Bhop and GGG are impressive, and why those fighters stayed at that weight for all or most of their careers.

    Some streaks are cared about.

True but quite often the rankings of the governing bodies do not actually represent the best fighters in the division. I don't see how Jo Jo or Bizier were ever in a mandatory position.

True. Rankings have become somewhat a joke unfortunately. $$ matters more.
