Using Floyd-Castillo 1 as a reason as to why Floyd can't handle effective pressure, or as to why Floyd would arguably lose to another good effective pressure fighter (e.g. Cotto, or perhaps a JCC Sr. fantasy fight) - is not a legitimate argument...

Especially how Floyd over-turned that directly after (no more than 6 months later, with no injury) and has since proved (and beforehand too) that pressure is not a weakness of his.

lemme try to give an example

    like boxer A might have
    a weak chin
and a peek a boo defensive stance which leaves him open to an uppercut

That's like saying what if one night Zab Judah turns out and fights at a high-tempo for 12 rounds, despite usually blowing out after 4. It's not something that's going to happen overnight, and unfortunately with brittle hands there's not much you can do to protect them, other than using gloves with more padding, not sitting down on your punches as much, and not throwing as many shots as some are going to land on gloves and arms.

Erm let's see in terms of effective pressuring, well Cotto would be an example, not all out constant pressuring like Margarito for example, but moves in well and closes the gap and unloads at the right time in the right places with the right shots, which is why he is an accurate fighter with the best body attack in boxing atm.

Povetkin used pretty effective pressuring against Byrd for example as well, tonight aswell but it was less visible as all Sykes did was spoil, but against Byrd he didn't constantly go after him, he was on the outside and then moved inside well with a good defensive guard and landed accurately on Byrd in area's where he was exposed defensive.

Name another good fighter that uses effective pressure that Floyd has faced since then. That's why we haven't seen it again. Cherry picking.

Well, he re-matched Castillo within 6 months and showed that it wasn't neccessarily effective aggression he struggled with, but perhaps a combination of that PLUS being injured.

So Castillo, for one, who was a top pound for pounder (and only months after the first fight).

He also fought Dela Hoya, an admittably faded but still an ATG, who applied effective agression for part of the fight until FLOYD made him go into a shell; and Ricky Hatton, a top ten pound for pounder.

Baldomir tried, but there's no point even attempting to argue him cause I know what will be said.

He also fought a number BEFORE Castillo, like Chavez and Hernandez, dominating them both.

But of course - cause Floyd didn't fight Cotto, and for some strange reason, Margarito - he's a cherry picker who never fought a guy with effective aggression.

Whatever. Anyone with that train of thought I struggle to give them credibility... But that's just my personal opinion on the matter.

i think the only way to beat floyd - is to have a fighter that can box, pressure, and slug, but they need to beat him outside of the ring - i've said this before, floyd wins MANY of his fights outside the ring with his constant barrage of insults, putdowns etc. you need to break floyds will and and make him doubt his own abilities.

people believe the likes of ray leonard could beat floyd - i'm not so sure, as said somewhere before (maybe this thread), floyds never been into the deep waters - he said hatton was one of his toughest fights, and he won handily - it was semi close before the point deduction, but hatton lost his head then and floyd won very very easily thereafter. the reason im not so sure with floyd/leonard - leonard showed in duran1, that he was emotional and would sacrifice a winning gameplan to go macho style. floyd just wants to win at any cost - he'll give leonard all the insults he could handle before the fight - and leonard might well want to slug it out with floyd. floyd has the defensive abilities to avoid the best of leonard, and really turn it on as leonard starts to tire - if leonard does let his emotions rule him - floyd could make it a great great great fight and really show his worth against leonard. (i know this isnt a floyd/leonard thread - but im making the point that the only weakness that floyd really has - he needs to be made to fight for his life - i think calzaghe p4p, where both fighters love their undefeated records that much, that both really never been that badly in a losing position by the 10th round - that would be something (obviously im talking p4p).

floyd like calzaghe has a great fear of losing, and has never really ever had a fight they when not injured in the middle of a fight, that they have been in danger of losing, so if both fighters had to fight for it - i mean, it was that or lose, i think both fighters - brittle hands or not, would throw all caution to the wind and would give everything in their entire arsenal to win that fight.

I think the only weakness that you should really credit to floyd is - he likes to win his fights before the bell rings - can he still do that if he didnt succeed in doing that?

Augustus pressured Floyd and made him fight. Ndou pressured Floyd and made him fight. Floyd stood toe to toe with Corley in his first fight at 140. I mean, that is not even his style. Pressure is a style of fight that Floyd is USED to. Floyd is not as good if he has to be the aggressor. See the Judah fight for an example. Floyd came forward the whole time and got caught more with power shots then probably ever. Thats how I know you guys are full of ****. Floyd's style same as JT is designed to neutralize an aggressive opponent. I dont think Floyd is as comfortable coming forward. He got caught by Judah and Mitchell doing it. Though Mitchell just caught him like twice in a whole fight and Floyd beat the brakes off of him.

The fact is, maybe he was slightly injured but Castillo pushed Floyd very, very close in that fight, perhaps even won, and his gameplan of uses effective pressuring worked as Floyd was clearly uncomfortable with it, and got caught with a few shots and a lot of shots to the body.

DLH as you say is faded, he's not what you'd call a pressure fighter anyway, but adopted that gameplan to much sucess in the first 7 rounds, before he faded as the fight wore on because of his stamina issues.

Hatton is an out and out pressure fighter, he doesn't apply what I would call effective pressuring though, because he lacks the defensive foundamentals and movement, particularly that night as for whatever reason, Cortez and/or the occassion, his gameplan was disrupted and he didn't use movement or a good defensive guard to work his way inside, and didn't pick his shots well enough.

Baldomir, well as you say no point argueing, the guys an average fighter who overachieved by beating Zab.

Chavez and Hernandez you could make a point for, however would either of those push Floyd as hard as Cotto would today? I don't think so. Floyd in or around his prime, at 130 really, had very little weaknesses, I have no problem admitting he is the greatest 130 of all-time, however as his career progressed and he moved through the weights weaknesses began to emerge that elite guys could possibly take advantage of with the right gameplan and execution.

I'm not even going to bother, because you have used a journeyman and two B- fighters as example as to why Floyd can handle pressure.

What about the Castillo fight. He's better than any of those 3 and whatever the excuses he pushed Floyd very, very close in that fight, possibly even won, on the basis that he pressured Floyd effectively and troubled him.

But if he beat Margarito...you would have accused him of avoiding Cotto.

If he beat Cotto...you would have accused him of ducking Williams.

If he would have beat Williams...by then you would have built up Andre Berto and demanded that Floyd "needed" to beat him.

Then if he beat Berto...you would have criticized him for not fight Mosley, Wright, Spinks, etc in the past.

Some of you people just dislike Mayweather soo much, so say whatever you can to discredit him. A lot of people may not like him (and justifiably so), but some of y'all just continue to hate on him. Floyd does something for charity, and y'all take shots at him. Some of y'all would even try to discredit Floyd if he came up with a cure for cancer.

As I thought, cause Floyd never fought Cotto (or for some others, Margarito) - for some reason that equates to him never having fought an effective aggressive fighter in his whole career. Despite the large number of very good pressure fighters he actually HAS fought.

Castillo is almost a mute point. Within months, Floyd showed what his effective aggression does to him. Makes the elbow injury argument a lot more valid, imho.

Shouldn't have responded to this guy. Don't expect anything logical in return.
