In your view, what must Canelo do to earn a ranking in your top 20 ATG list? Is he already in the top 20? Is reaching the top 20 outside of the realm of possibility for him?
If he beats Bivol, Beterbiev, Ramirez, Benavidez and Smith Jr to fully unify LHW, he'll be a legitimate 4 weight champion. In historical terms he'd be the equivalent of a two weight champion. There's been loads of those. Loads. Hearns is number 20 on my list. He was a belt holder in 5 divisions, he essentially unified LMW and he beat the number 1 LHW in the world, a man who would go on to become number one again. Plus he poleaxed Roberto Duran. I mean how does Canelo overtake that? He certainly wasn't a greater LMW than Hearns, and he won't be beating a better LHW than Hearns beat. So upon reflection, probably nothing he can do to break my top 20.
Nothing He lost to a 80 year old Floyd He lost to a 70 year old GGG arguably twice but definitely at least once after ducking him and dropping a belt to avoid fighting him for 2 years All of which while being roided to the gills
Canelo participates in fixed fights, weight jumps and cherrypicks and never fights on even terms.. He is barred from any ATG list... Please can we stop these dumbass fanboy threads..please
why dont you just stay out of em? you worried someone will miss you if you do? dont worry, the thread will be better for it.
He would need to string together a lot more wins against enough top 5 ranked dudes. But he will need to conquer 175 while doing so. Hope a rival emerges. Hope his prior opponents go on to do relevant things too.
Top 20 ATG is such a lofty goal. That means he will have to basically reach Pacquiaos level so I sort of doubt that happens.
At this point Canelo and Pacquiao have the same number of KOs with 39. Pacquiao has 5 more wins than Canelo but also 7 more losses. It's an interesting comparison between the two but I think we need to consider that Canelo has never been stopped or knocked down. So in terms of who is a more complete and well rounded fighter I think you'd have to go with Canelo. Both Pac and Canelo were/are explosive KO artists but only one of them has showcased consistent defense and an iron chin throughout his career.
