Canelo would need to pull every trick in the book, short camp, catch weight, rehydration clause, pick of gloves, pick of location, ref in his pocket etc, to even be competitive.

As good as Canelo is, Roy's speed, movement, ability to get off first and then be gone, unorthodox style, power etc is just too much. Toney was a great Super middle and Jones Jr toyed with him.

RJJ wins a clear UD, Canelo's steady patient walk you down style isn't going to be enough against an opponent who can get off first and be gone before Canelo can counter. You need to put it on RJJ not press and look to counter.

Roy every day of the week and twice on Sunday.

Only Calzaghe and Ward would even have a chance of winning a round off prime Roy IMO - he was THAT good at his peak.

As others have said, the Roy that was on the comedown from his zenith (beating huggy Ruiz for the HW title) was a different proposition, the weight gain, then weight loss badly messed him up.

Canelo would get slaughtered. He literally has not 1 advantage against Roy. Roy by stoppage whenever he chooses to end it

Canelo will look like he's moving in slow motion. Jones wide UD something like 118-110 or 119-109. Jones was at his best at super middle.

To be fair, The OP said no holds barred... so there probably would be paid judges!

Canelo has a chance tbh. He cuts the ring very well, has good timing, punch accuracy, deadly traps, counterpunching and head/upper body movement. Griffin exposed Jones' some weak sides in the first bout. Del Valle dropped him.

Jones for me. Roy was a level above everyone up until Tarver. I try to remember Roy’s career up until John Ruiz. The decline was rapid post Ruiz. What an awesome fighter in his prime. I loved to watch Roy fight although it was sad to see him get beat by fighters who would not of touched him in his prime.

If you were to pick the single worse foil to Canelo stylistically, it would be 168lb Roy.

roy should be favored, but it would be competitive. i got lots of confidence in team canelos ability to prepare him with the right plan to take advantage of any situation that doesnt favor roys style and attributes. you got to remember, canelo doesnt need a clean punch to hurt you, he can just chop at you till you lose a step. he doesnt waste energy waiting for the opening, he makes one. and he can take a punch from anyone at 168 without wilting. i would give he a better chance over 15, but i think he still pushes roy to his limit.
a fight with bivol would better tell me how competitive it would be. i would see what approach he takes in cornering the bigger more elusive target. i dont rate roys comp at 168 much higher than canelos, and they both left no doubt they were a level above. roys competitive fights came against others near that level.
ultimately, i think roys speed keeps him just a hair in front of canelos timing. then again, a second lost in concentration, from the constant pressure, and he could get kovaleved. roy isnt exactly made of iron, hes just an athletic freak.

Roy's speed would make this easy for him like most of his fights. Nothing Canelo has would get to Roy. the speed is the difference and then add to that Roy's size advantage a little, it just says late knockout or UD.

I think Roy is overrated buts hard not seeing him at his prime be too fast and elusive at 168 for Canelo.

Would be an interesting fight though.
