Gerald McClellan comes first in mind. He was a cut down cruiserweight who had a genuinely tough chin, heart, punch selection and terrifying punching power. His size advantage over Hagler and specially his punches like the left hook to the body or his chopping right would have been an extremely serious threat to Hagler. I can see him getting rocked, seriously injured and eventually stopped. What's your opinions ?
That man hasn't been born yet. At least not at middle. Maybe original Tyson or something. I mean, he took the best from guys like Hearns and Mugabi, and never looked more than annoyed.
If Hagler stood there and stuck his chin out numerous guys could have done it with one shot. Gerald McLellan, Julian Jackson and Randy Turpin come to mind. But in an actual fight, I'm not sure any middleweight could have knocked out prime Marvin Hagler.
Yuri? I dunno man, only 10 KOs out of 35 wins and he'd have to move up in weight. Before the Leonard fight Marv punched his own head harder than Yuri could manage.
Who did Mccllean ko that wasn't ko'ed before? Most posters here have this opinion he was this destructive puncher that know fighter could stand up to. Yet he landed a bunch of clean hard punches on Benn and didn't stop him. Benn wasn't noted for having a great chin, and was ko'ed twice prior to his fight with McCllean. Personally , I find his power rating is somewhat overrated. Mugabi, Jackson, and Hearns had ko's over fighters that were prime or close to it and thought to have a great chin. I can't think of one of McClleans opponents that fit that criteria. The only thing McCelleans power would do to Hagler is **** him off more and give him more incentive to try and kill him, as noted punchers like Hearns,Mugabi,Sibson Lee, Briscoe, Scypian and Hart discovered. The only fighters that possibly could ko Hagler are natural Lt.Heavies like Foster ,Spinks, Moore or Charles. Middleweight and below no one .
I'd say no one from SMW knocks him out either. The ATG's at LHW have a chance but unless Marvin gets careless (unlikely) then I don't see him getting stopped there either.
It is hard to see how you you could pick anybody to do it a middleweight. We never saw it happen in the real world, and there is not much to fault in his opposition. If it was going to happen, it would likely have happened. OK say you, so I will bring out the big guns. Then we run into the opposite problem, because we don't have any data to work with. His chin might have been cracked a light heavyweight, or he might have been able to soak up heavyweight punches like Micky Walker. Let's just say that nobody stopped him in the real world, and leave it at that.
