We aint seeing josh taylor go up to fight ugas... Errol or bud taking on Murata or Catano... Inoue take on Fulton... To all the haters saying its so chicken **** to move up from 168 to 190... If it was that easy, why dont we see guys do it more often? Im not flat out defending Canelo, but answer the question. Y'all make it seem like its so easy. If Mukamba was so easy... why hasnt bivol or beterbiev taken on em man? With all the catchweight BS as well, we act as if other greats have never done this. Canelo was on the B side vs Floyd, where he was drained to ****. But yall say its one of Floyd's best wins?!?! The double standard is stupid. A champ with all the belts wants to have more belts... So to fight another major belt holder at a higher weight class all of a sudden is ducking, when the dudes he be ducking aint champs. But who tf has charlo and benavidez even fought. Why hasnt charlo fought andrade? Why didnt charlo move up to 168? smfh. Again the double standard is crazy stupid.
Mukamba is fighting at a drained 190 that he has not made in years. He will take the money of course but I would give Canelo more credit just for fighting a fair fight against Bivol, Beterbiev, etc.
I would have preferred his next opponent be Benavidez but Canelo is on a quest to be a boxing immortal. A 5th div belt puts him in the company of Hearns, Leonard and FLoyd in record books.
its just boys and silly men. this isnt some complicated formula, its common sense. i dont remember this much pearl clutching when usyk was testing the waters a weight above, with tune ups, not even belt holders. because they know what weight means in boxing. but apparently canelo shouldnt be subject to the laws of physics.
IMO I prefer cruiser at 190. The gap between 175 and 200 was too big. I still don’t like Bridgerweight. But if they have to do it. I would make it somewhere like 201 pounds. That way true heavyweights stay at heavyweight I don’t think we needed Bridger buy another division between light heavy and cruiser
Why didn't Bivol, Kovalev, and Beterbiev fight each other when they all held a version of the 175 belt, or Beterbiev and Bivol fight now? Why didn't Andrade, Saunders, or Smith fight each other? Why didn't Golovkin, Andrade, or Charlo fight each other? It seems Canelo haters hold him to much much higher expectations.
Dont really care, to be honest. Id rather see him fight dangerous and relevant guys around his own division than go after weak links in higher weights.
Might as well fight Trevor Bryan while he's at it.... if the makubu fights a catchweight then it's meaningless...fighters don't do well drained...see Dawson Vs ward
Do you mean Makabu? Lets put this into perspective. Makabu is 34 years old; hasn't fought since last year - which will mean more than a full year's inactivity by the time Canelo fights him - and arguably lost to both Cieslak and Papin and he was KTFOd by Tony Bellew. He is the smallest cruiserweight champion; clearly the worst and if anyone is honest with themselves, they know how likely it is Canelo slaps on a rehydration clause or forces the fight at a catch-weight or... so on and so forth. If he goes up and takes on Makabu, it's a cherry pick. No question. Not that that'd make it a bad win, he is still moving up two weight classes, but it's disappointing to see him take on the worst of the champions and say to himself he's 'chasing greatness'. If he truly was, he'd fight Briedis. If he longs this process out and does wait until Cinco De Mayo, then does what he did at light-heavy - win belt, vacate, unify division below - then we could possibly see him in with Beterbiev or Bivol. It'd give Beterbiev more time to sit on the shelf aging, too. It wouldn't surprise me in the least if this fight was extremely well planned and is apart of a massive, albeit risky, run to maximise starpower and money.
