In Color, notice the stamina these guys going 20 rounds, 25 rounds( infighting, wrestling, still bouncing on the toes at distance ..Where's the ref to break the clinches?? No need !!! can you imagine the stamina needed for 20 rounds all action ... When men were men ..Packey showing the mastering of distance and range ... The ***** coddled fighters of today couldn't hang !! ........ Enjoy and thoughts ??

Amazing to me how much more enjoyable these fights are to watch when they are in color Very interesting to watch greats from the past. You can see the skills they had even thought they aren't quite the styles we are to watching. Thank you very much for posting.

Yeah, I can see, how modern sissies like Loma, Teofimo, Stevenson, Haney, etc. would be out of their depth against these ATGs from more than a century ago!

Way back in the day refs weren’t in the ring in British rings.

I'm not quite sure, what this means!

Anyway, do you seriously believe, that someone like, say, Loma wouldn't even be competitive against these guys?

you know exactly what it means .... but you dont know that these guys were knocking guys out in the street at age 14 and 15 street fighting. then turning pro at 16 going 20 , 25 , plus rounds ..and fighting well over a 100 fights ... not cherry picking fights once a year .. but you wouldn't know any of that because you think for some reason that fighting 100 years ago makes you not relevant .. when the sport has turned to **** over the years .. so ya man you didnt get the memo because you are all greased up with mayweathers poster on your wall .. you understand it now ??

I don't know what Mayweather has got to do with this?

This is a forum, where we discuss boxing! Are you telling me, that when you post something as silly as modern boxers not being able to "hang" with the oldtimers - I'm not allowed to question that?

You can't even answer a straight question: Do you think Loma would be in over his head against these guys?

why is it silly ?? You and I have the same discussion every time ... I really dont know why you continue to quote me tbh ... I explain to you how spence , crawford , and thurman were ranked the best welters for years .. and yet how many times did they fight each other? and every time you continue to stand there with your dick in your hand peeing all over yourself telling me how great these guys are ,, so to answer the question directly a fighter with 17 pro fights with 2 losses in 8 years, lol ....

So you can't have a civil discussion - without ridiculous personal attacks? What's wrong with you?

I don't judge a boxer on how many fights he has under his belt. I judge them on how good they are! We all know, that today's boxers don't fight as often, and don't have as many fights, as the oldtimers... but that doesn't automatically mean, they wouldn't be competitive with fighters from 100 or more years ago. I see nothing in the footage we have of McFarland and Welsh that suggests to me, they would outclass Loma.

How about Usyk, another of today's fighters with very few fights? Nearly all his big matches have taken place in his opponent's backyard, so he can hardly be called a "coddled" boxer. But with only 19 pro fights, would he be too inexperienced to take on the oldtimers, in your opinion?

That is a lovely right uppercut from Packey. The way he cuts Welsh off through feinting is great too. Very classy baiting with his head and countering. The rear hand parry is absolutely on point as well.

Unfortunately, seems this thread is going to the same unresolved, biased 10+ year arguments, instead of actually appreciating the film at hand.

It happens all the time. You can't have a nice thread about old timer's footage because some immature posters from either side will start attacking the other side.

Packey looks phenomenal in this fight by the way. I actually prefer B&W version, but it's always nice to have both.

Now we are finding some common ground for once ..I agree with this ^^ as Packey fought overseas, Canada, west coast, east coast, and everywhere in between... a coddled boxer would be the Mayweather type .. take the Vegas out of the Vegas boy, the cherry-picking, take the control of the venue adv out of your back pocket, take on more risk, always being the favorite and the shot caller.. etc ... well now we have a different sport as you are referring to above ... going on the road, which has its significant place in ALL sports , not just boxing, being in the hostile environment as the Underdog .. I think Usyk( +220 vs AJ and on the road) is special a great boxer ... and I think in general when you take on risk, and step it up in competition .. then you are entitled to your due.. Usyk imo , has well earned that and could fight in any era... We disagree on almost everything ,, which is fine ... here we seem to agree on something ...

I’m a big fan of classic boxing and certainly enjoy watching old fights and reading about the history of the sport. I’ve got tons of respect for these old timers, but I have to agree with you that there’s just a huge skills gap between fighters from this era and guys like Lomachenko, Mayweather, etc. In my opinion, the difference in skill level and overall athleticism is pretty obvious from just watching the film. I certainly respect other people’s opinions on this subject though, whether they agree or not.
