34 might have been old years ago, but with modern nutrition and staying in shape, which a lot don’t, but the ones that do wouldn’t be old at 34, although if you don’t live the life you can decline in your early 30s

I'm happy for him if he sticks with it. Easy to say immediately after the fight, tho.

But he's already fought everyone, is getting older and imo is already pretty shopworn. I thought he fought a great fight last night but he's only going to get worse and doesn't have an obvious big money opponent at this stage. He has a bright career ahead in commentary, so following in the footsteps of Ward and Bradley makes sense for him.

He said he thought his fight with Spence was going to be his last then felt he had enough for one more fight.

Wow! Good guy, pretty good career even though he lost every big fight, he made it interesting. He was so close to winning last night, I can’t believe he would hang it up so quickly. The stoppage was shocking but he made his money and maybe his dad saw something I didn’t see at the time. I like Porter and want to see him enjoy his money in good health. Even at his best, he was always just a shade under the elites at welterweight. So close but no cigar

Smart. No need to spend the last few years of your career getting beat up as a stepping stone. I’m sure they would have loved to have served him to Ennis.

thanks for the memories. Definitely one of the good guys.

I would hate to be that, absolutely hate it. Coming up just short against the very, very best (every time razor-close), that dirty little thought in the back of your mind, "If it wasn't for Thurman, Spence, and Crawford, who aren't anywhere near as active and promotion friendly as I am, I'd be running this division!" I can't imagine that not doing a number on your soul. One thing to not be first when there's some distance, another when the distance is paper-thin.

    True warrior.

Never was a big fan off his style but he fought the best, even if he did usually come up short.

Hes made good money and he had the commentator avenue open.

Seems like a legit nice guy.

    Best of luck to him.

Shawn Porter was this generations Oba Carr but at least he was able to pick up some trinkets.

Hopefully he just takes a little time off and fires his dad as his trainer and comes back. If not he can have a good career as a commentator.

Porter was putting up a brave front and was able to keep it up but Crawford's punches were really hurting Porter. Just watch his reactions after some of those rounds. He was swarming all over Crawford but it really didn't have the desired effect on him. He won some battles but Crawford won the war.
