MAYWEATHER WANTS CANELO TO FIGHT BENAVIDEZ
“We like Canelo Alvarez, but Gervonta Davis, Errol Spence, Terence Crawford – there are so many other great fighters out there,” said Floyd Mayweathier Jr. to the media at the WBC convention this week.

David Benavidez is a helluva fighter also; that’s a good test for Canelo.

“Canelo looked superb the other night [against Caleb Plant]. He went out there, and he went out there, and he done his job and did what he’s supposed to do as a fighter.

“We [Canelo] had a chance to clash, two undefeated fighters, and we gave people what they wanted to see [in 2013],” said Mayweather about his fight with Alvarez eight years ago in which he won by a 12 round majority decision.

Canelo would stop Benavidez, I wonder why that fight isn’t happening. A big Mexican vs Mexican fight would sell

Can you reference the exact quote where Mayweather said he is ducking Benavidez...

I want to see Canelo vs Benavidez too. That dude is big, hard hitting and dangerous. Probably the best of the rest at 168.

I do believe Floyd is the experience authority when it comes to ducking, but I don't think Benavidez is really a duck.

The crazy thing is Benevidez passes the eye test, but hasn't really fought anyone good. He's got the size, speed, and crispy combos, but his true abilities are still unknown.

That's how terrible of a wasteland 168 is.

Truly, Benavidez needs to elevate himself some more in order to be the sort of "missed opportunity" or "why didnt he fight so and so" that some are really pushing right now. If they fight and Benavidez lost do you really think in 50 years people are going to put that in a tier of wins above Plant? They will not.

Benavidez only has himself to blame for losing his 168 strap on the scales IMO.

Otherwise the Canelo fight would have already happened - Canelo got that WBC strap as a "freebie" from Sulaiman when he threw it into the pot of the Callum Smith fight.

Can't blame Canelo in this one.

Fair post. I still think he's the second best fighter at 168 though.

I think Benavidez fighting Canelo would be the sort of experience that fighting Mayweather was for Canelo.

I want to see it, I'm impatient, but I'm not ready to criticize them too harshly. DB is still young, 168 isn't his real weight class. It's like Crawford at 135.

You mean showing zero interest fighting for his title until he loses it on the scale and then fighting the guy he was supposed to fight wasn't enough of a clue? He also wants nothing to to with Beterbiev or Bivol at 175.
