Canelo wants 180 pounds catchweight vs Makabu

    Clenelo also didn't explicitly say that he might weigh in at 180 for a fight at the full cruiserweight limit.

    Historically, when a fighter says that they can't make a weight, it means a catchweight will be in place to make the fight happen.

    However, according to Canelo's trainer, Eddy Reynoso, there are still details to be defined for the fight with Makabu, and the weight will undoubtedly be one of the most complicated issues as the Congolese fighter declared that he would not accept an agreed weight.

    Hopefully Team Makabu don't budge.

    The wording is unclear as to whether Canelo is demanding a 180 lb catchweight, but all I say is that if it did happen at 180 lb it's a joke of a fight and reflects no credit to Canelo.

    Cruiserweight fight is any contest where both combatants weigh over 175lbs and under 200lbs.

    Yes, even 176 lb is technically cruiserweight. 180lb would be a joke of a catchweight though.

    I'm not a fan, but I just never get too excited about these things.

    Ilunga has a net worth of about 10 million dollars according to the internet, most sources say 12. He is an elite athlete alpha male. He has a management team and a sports management team. This millionaire will weigh the offer and take advice from his management and sport's science teams and decide, based upon that advice, what action to take.

    But you're going to read a lot about his being "bullied" over the next month.

    I get your point, but to be honest I'm not interested in whether Makabu was "bullied" or not.

    As a fan, what I care about is whether this is a sporting contest for which Canelo deserves credit, or a glorified sale of a belt. I hope it's the former.
