Within 3 years Canelo will face a HW for the title. He told that after Makabu he wants Rivas for the Bridger. The guy and his sponsors (PPV and others) have already well planned his future and at the end he will be richer than Mayweather. Thoughts?
I think he's reaching a time in his career where he's going to take a loss or two. It happens to the best of them. The Makabu fight isn't set in stone yet so who knows for sure if it will happen. I think i realistically can see him fighting Makabu at a catchweight if he accepts and then he'll move down in weight to fight the light heavyweights without having to shift much weight off. If he fights Makabu at 180 lbs then going back down to 175 lbs to fight Bivol and Beterbiev isn't a huge deal. I think he'll probably lose before he'll eventually run out of marquee opponents. I think Golovkin III might just happen if he doesn't look too bad in his next fight against Murata. After all Golovkin is still a big name in the boxing world and i think it would still do relatively decent PPV numbers just perhaps lower than the previous fights. I could see Golovkin going up for another big payday if he does still look relatively good against Murata.
He is 5ft 9inch in shoes. Hes not fighting at HW. And he should get dispatched against a good CW, as is the case for any SMW.
People would have a lot more respect for him if he wasn't fighting only second-tier "champions" in their respective divisions. He needs to fight the best in each division, not just cherry-picked champions or ex-champions.
Respect the man for the 175 fight even with a jagged and 50/50 Krusher. He will have to task some “real” RISK in order to truly test himself. One must ask who has he really faced that was or is a threat other than Floyd, GGG and Krusher? Khan? Smith? Cheeseburger Jr? Rocky? Plant?
The only thing that can limit Canelo is How much PEDS can he take before he looks like Mr Hyde in a League of Extrordinary Gentleman.
If he cherry picks well he can beat a fat heavyweight...like Andy Ruiz if he loses weight and gets down to like 210 and looks like a skeleton....or Areola when he has a flu. Big Mexican showdown for a special WBC emerald heavyweight championship.
Kovalev was beating Canelo until Kovalev got chinned, and Kovalev has been fading hard in the last few years. Canelo will be beaten if he keeps fighting at LHW (or above) and fights anyone high ranking. He knows this, which is why he went back down to SMW. If he weight drains some CW, or cherry picks fighters on the verge of retirements, he might pick up a win or two that sounds impressive on paper, but even that is a gamble. He's not viable at 175 or above.
