Jeff Fenech was an absolute bull. He rag dolled a lot of guys and used to put on quite a bit of weight even in the era of the same day weigh in.
It was almost 3 times his weight in the ring and didn’t seem to be his max. I'd say that's good. If I remember correctly Beterbiev half squatted 160 kg for 20 reps. Impressive in my book.
I am gonna flat out call bull sh1t on that! I have seen him do 120kg for a few reps that's it -About Crawford it's neat for a guy who doesn't make lifting his priority but it isn't impressive IMO if it was an actual deadlift that'd be pretty freakin sweet though maybe he can?
Look it up on Youtube. My memory is 160, for what it's worth. EDIT: Can't find it when I look, Strange, had a pretty clear memory of it and that I even posted it here in a thread, but...
Is there info out there on the successful gyms or trainers over in Ghana? I would be interested to hear what techniques they use. I thought I remember reading years ago about Quartey and rowing but I could be totally wrong.
Foreman was up there in natural strength. But what about Willard was particularly strong? He was a giant for his era, & had lost muscle due to inactivity by the time he fought Dempey. But I recall no tales of his strength, & he likely was not as strong as folks his size from the modern era who did weight training & sometimes PEDs. Weaver? Despite his nickname, he seemed like another strong guy whose muscles were more apparent because he was lower bodyfat than the average HW, like Holyfield. Look at his height & prime weight, he did not carry more muscle mass than a typical HW from the 1980's. He hit hard like so many HWs, but even that does not necessarily reflect muscular strength. Cooney hit really hard but did not have a great deal of muscle. He just had more definition because he was leaner.
You do realize they were huge right? they weren't just popping because they were lean. Holy and Weaver were over 200lbs and around 8% bodyfat. Do you really think guys like Dokes, Tillis, Tubbs ect would look anything like that if they were as lean?
for the sake of variety from the usual suspects mentioned, i always thought Bonavena and Fighting Harada looked real strong dudes. Maybe it was their legs gave me that impression, i dunno.
Randy Turpin looks like a bit of a monster on the old films. He looked a huge middleweight with a very impressive physique and looked extremely strong. Maybe someone more knowledgable than me could confirm.
Tyson Fury ? His physicality left Wilder completely shattered after only a few rounds. Wlad who was known for being very strong was man-handled with ease by Fury when he was weakened and weight drained.
