What a fight and performance from the Aussie last night, outboxed Lopez who struggled with the lightning hand speed from the thunder from down under.Lopez who acted like a petulant baby post fight well put in his place so it was good to see.
I think Lopez messed up his weight and just thought he would win. The first round he came out thinking he would just spark him. Kambosos was brilliant but I do think Lopez' ego got the KO
Incredible. Stunned with this result. Clearly didn't respect the lad in front of him and got dragged into a war he hadn't mentally prepared himself for because he thought it would be easy.
This fight alone was worth the DAZN subscription, best performance of the year for me from Kambosos. The highlight for me was him coming out and winning the 11th round after being knocked down and looking exhausted in the 10th, it surpassed what he did in the early rounds when he built up a commanding lead on the scorecards. Lopez, seemed out of sorts and I think him and his team, especially his father were guilty of both looking past Kambosos and underestimating his fighting spirit. His father's corner work was somewhat reminiscent of Tunde Ajayi and the way the scorecards were tallied up it probably cost Teo the fight. Lopez was down 60-54, 59-54 and 59-55 after six rounds, and that was with the benefit of two judges scoring the first round 10-9 to Kambosos, despite him scoring a knockdown. He was clearly expecting an early blowout and he let the early rounds slip away, loading up and leaving himself open to Kambosos counter shots, especially in the opening round. After the first round Kambosos confidence and self-belief grew and he did to Lopez what Lopez did to Loma through those first six rounds. I don't think he will have a long reign, but he thoroughly deserved the decision and the big payday that will surely follow.
Massive credit to Kambosos! He's a little **** but has the heart of a lion. He's one of those guys you can tell just loves to fight. So @Mitch87 does this mean Kambosos is better than Loma and Lopez is now more Selby level? So Selby could probably beat Loma!
Great fight. The 11th round told you everything you need to know about team Lopez. They thought they were so far ahead they could just take 11 & 12 off which was ridiculous. Even the 10th after knockdown I think Lopez let Kambodos off the hook and should have been pressing a lot more.
The @Mitch87 resume algorithm is all over the place with some of these recent results. It was just about repaired successfully after it was under pressure to make sense of the Tony Dosh PPV defeat, followed by Fury beating Wilder then it burst into flames when Skid Galahad was KTFO. I believe @Mitch87 has stuck a plaster on it to get it working again by introducing more bias against Fury and Wilder.
The corner work was some of the worst I've ever seen. The advice was appalling, but the main thing for me was that they simply weren't ready for him at the end of the rounds. For one of them, Teo was back in the corner, with his father still not on the ring apron while he was yelling WATER to one of the seconds. I think the corner work started after about 15 seconds of the bell. Nothing wrong with having a father in the corner if he can separate the passion from his role - but Senior was clearly too emotionally involved to be a proper cornerman last night. I took a strong dislike to Kambosos for his antics in the build up to the Selby fight, but gained a lot of respect for him as soon as he switched his obnoxious arsehole mode off once he'd won. He's a good guy with a talent for mental warfare. In this bout, it was beautiful to see someone play Lopez at his own trash talking game and then stick it to him on his home soil. I hope George gets the undisputed fight next then the world is his oyster. Also, echoing what someone else said - this was worth a month of DAZN by itself.
