Kinda weird how this was a sanctioned pro fight when they had MMA gloves and it was in a freaking triangle ring!!!!
Yep, under "modified rules" but I guess they figured it was closer to boxing than anything else. Given all the other MMA type stand-up that is allowed under Triad (spinning backfists etc) definitely strange for these fights to count on pro records but not WSB or even BKB. Oh well.
I’ll always be a fan of Pulev but this was a dangerous and pointless fight. Put any MMA guy in that ring with Pulev under the same rules and the result would be the same. Even at 40, he still knows how to fight and is dangerous. Any MMA fighter, active HW champ, and Pulev brutalizes him. Frank Mir is long over the hill and is lucky he wasn’t severely injured. He was out on his feet and Pulev could have punched his ticket for good if he wanted to. The ref should have stepped in a little sooner but I get it, new promotion and people want to see brutality. I’m a fan of MMA and the seeet science of boxing but not a fan of this format. Guys like Pulev punching people with MMA gloves can be deadly. Glad no one was killed. How long before we see Wilder in one of these types of fights? He’s one loss away from doing one of these boxer/MMA guy fights. They will do these until someone gets killed or severely injured. I like action but don’t like mismatches. This format has mismatch written all over it.
...speaking of The Molecule From Hell, apparently he's still fighting! Lost a UD6 to a debutant on Friday.
