It remains to be seen whether the unbeaten lightweight contender jumps to the front of the line, but he was among the more interested observers for Saturday’s divisional championship bout on DAZN from Madison Square Garden’s Hulu Theater in New York City. In a massive upset, George Kambosos Jr. prevailed by split decision victory to dethrone previously undefeated lineal/WBA/IBF/WBO lightweight king Teofimo Lopez Jr. No sooner than the official verdict was announced, Garcia offered his services as the next challenger. “My return fight, I’ll fight Kambosos,” Garcia tweeted the moment the new champion’s arm was raised in victory. “Massive respect to Kambosos for that performance. [H]onestly, you deserve it and all love… go celebrate.” Ironically, the oft-postponed Lopez-Kambosos clash landed on a date that Garcia (21-0, 18KOs) was to have headlined. The 23-year-old from Victorville, California was scheduled to face Joseph ‘Jo Jo ‘ Diaz (31-1-1, 15KO) in a WBC interim lightweight title fight in the greater Los Angeles area, only to suffer a hand injury requiring immediate surgery. It put Garcia on the shelf and left him with just one fight on the year—an off-the-canvas, seventh-round knockout of England’s Luke Campbell this past January in Dallas, Texas. Garcia is expected to return to the ring in the first quarter of 2022. The suggestion of a shot at Sydney’s Kambosos (20-0, 10KOs) at least has the blessing of those guiding his career. “Congratulations, George Kambosos,” Oscar De La Hoya, founder and chairman of Golden Boy Promotions tweeted. “Let’s talk Ryan Garcia.” Kambosos is not bound to any platform though his last two fights have aired on DAZN shows promoted by Matchroom Boxing. Garcia has fought on DAZN since Golden Boy’s exclusive deal began with the sports streaming service in 2018 and which is expected to renew upon the end of the current agreement later this year.
Kambosos will get lost in Oscar's son's handsome face and get sparked. Garcia by UD with help from the ref, judges, Kambosos corner team, the venue owners, etc.
i think garcia stops him. via short left hook as kambosos steps forward. i think people will overate kambosos because of how little teo brought to a title fight. none of the urgency, focus and discipline he brought to the loma fight. his legs were on point vs loma.
Teo was up for the Loma fight. Kambosos got into his head. Had dude fighting from a place of rage instead of purpose. GK developed a great gameplan and executed t very well.
Nobody knows what Garcia is like at the moment, he’s been out the ring since the beginning of the year due to “anxiety or depression” depending on the source that you listen to and now he has a hand injury. Either way a high pressured fight against a guy like George isn’t something that he should be put in after whatever the situation he is in at the moment. George is oozing confidence at the moment, and from the remarks we are hearing that Canelo is hinting that there is a lack of dedication from Garcia. So i wouldn’t be putting massive money on Garcia currently, not that he lacks the talent or skill set to get the job done.
Kambosos will beat him none of these supposed 4 kings have the heart and grit of the Spartan warrior.
Ryan Garcia would get mauled by the Gorrilla. He should fight a couple more fights before he even thinks about fighting for a world title, cuz rn hes not ready.
Right now, George takes it. Ryan is still sorting out his issues and I don’t think he’s mentally ready for this fight. It’s funny, somehow Tank gets a pass. Isn’t he 26 years old? Still hasn’t fought a top guy at his own weight and there are none on the horizon. He knocks out bums and his fans pretend he could do the same against top opponents. When will we see him fight a top guy at his own weight? Does anyone think he will fight for a real, non pretend, belt in ‘22? He’s the king of fake belts but has non interest in challenging real belt holders. At first it was because he was too young and not ready. What’s the excuse now?
All the top guys at 135 has a chance to beat Kambosos. He's fairly vulnerable. Keep in mind that he won all 3 of his big fights by split decision.
50/50 basically Garcia is incredibly naturally talented but lacks the mental state to be truly elite I think Kambosos would win by decision but wouldn't be surprised at all if Garcia sparked George out
