Antonio Margarito is a good combination puncher

The general consenus on ESB is that Antonio Margarito is a relentless slugger, and has limited boxing ability.

Recently, I have watched his battle with Paul Williams, and his destruction of both Golden Johnson and Cintron in both fights.

I think even in his defeat, he often displayed some really impressive combination punching. He is a mexican and therefore he is a crowd pleaser, but when he is putting punchers together, he is a really impressive fighter.

This is his bout with the overmatched Golden Johnson. The combination that started it all was a combination of punches to the body, and a beautiful double left uppercut. Miguel has been susceptable to uppercuts in the past, it was how Torres had him in such terrible trouble.

Here is the finish to his return bout with Cintron. When up close, he does some impressive work, mixing up his uppercut with left hooks to the body. Cotto is credited for being a spectacular body puncher, I also believe Antonio can work the body fairly well.

When I think of a relentless brawler, I almost think of a Mayorga type of fighter. There is no method to his work, he throws lunging shots and all that are mostly to the head.

Margarito is a different animal. He'll never go down as a master boxer, but when he puts his combinations together, he is as unpredictable as any fighter out there. Some of the angles he works, and the leverage he gets on his body shots may well prove to be a problem for Cotto.

check this video out this vid, it shows the boxer/stalker side of margo. Margarito fully manhandles Mora with killer combinations its a display of total domination.
Note: Mora is the bigger man in the fight, however doesnt act like it.

As well as being a ****ing monster

The best part of the Cintron rematch was him making 'get up' gestures because he wanted more

Indeed he is. The way he uses his reach to set things up from a distance to make his way in and lay it upon you is marvelous.

He can throw combinations but he leaves his chin open and he is also slow with his combinations. Clottey picked him off in the middle of his combinations easy. I mean very easy. Cotto has that ability to fight going back and countering. Trust, Cotto is going to let him lead and get off just to counter him with his own short fast double left hooks to the ribs and body.

win, lose, or draw, eventually i would like to see a PW vs AM rematch at either 147 or 154

Also, Paul Williams vs Daniel Santos at 154 is an interesting fight. 2 tall southpaws going at it

Margarito looks good fighting guys who cant actually counter punch. He will usually beat the brakes off of you if you stand there and try to open up with him. Usually just by being bigger and stronger. He dont really hit all that hard. Cintron took 100-150 power punches of his in 6 rounds and he just gave up rather then actually being knocked out. Margarito needs to land a lot to win. If Cotto does not let him he wins. Simple as that.

There was never any doubt that Miguel Cotto will most likely get his shots off quicker than Margarito. That's why the general feeling is if the fight goes the distance, Margarito cannot win.

However, as a counter-arguement, Cotto has been vunerable to the uppercut which is arguably Margarito's best shot. He used is beautifully to stop Glenn Johnson, and he even doubled it up. It was impressive.

Another perfect demonstration of why it is so completely difficult to "outbox" Margarito. Mora is a fairly elusive guy with quick feet, a flexible waist, good defense, and Margarito is all over him. These are educated combinations that Margarito throws, almost all of which are designed to land where an opponent is going to be, and setup to move him there. Margarito's timing and sequencing are remarkable.
