Does anyone know how many ko’s Davis had as an amateur? Been wondering if he’s always been a big hitter
Name some other guys in the lightweight that Davis could have faced. Name 10 lightweights that are better than Cruz. I'll wait. I'm not prepared to go that far, but he's probably the one lightweight in the lower half of the top 10 that I'd pick to make things uncomfortable as hell for higher ranked guys. Decent hand speed, pretty effective at getting in close and smothering. Pretty good pop. Absolutely filthy. It's not an easy style for anyone to face, especially for a guy who can be selective with his shots for rounds at a time. Maybe Cruz runs into something on the way in, but I think he'll have a lot more success than people think. He'll definitely bring the fire for as long as he can, even in the face of severe adversity.
A 23 year old 5'4 63 inch reach LW with barely no amateur experience fighting a fat entitled weight grifter … Can't wait LOL.. when you are only managing MDs against bums like Tommy Mattice you know someone somewhere behind the scenes is laughing their arse off… That's The level of opposition Davis is fighting
See, I kinda disagree with this. Cruz has shown himself capable of smothering a lot of incoming shots, or deflecting enough of them off the guard to avoid getting caught really flush. Tank's got pretty good defense for someone who operates as a pure puncher, but I don't think he likes being forced on the back foot, and I think it will be harder for him to hit paydirt, at least until he gets a handle on Cruz's pressure.
You are joking, right? Not in order but each of these guys sparks Cruiz. Loma Teo Lopez Kambosos Ryan Garcia Luke Campbell Jorge Linares Haney Tank Davis Commey Fortuna Zapeda Jojo Diaz Nakatani Selby sparks him and he’s shot. Stevenson, Valdez and Berchelt easily come up from 130 and spark Cruz. He’s not a legit opponent which fits the mold for Tank’s recent opponent choices. They are treating him like a prospect. That’s 17 off the top of my head. If I wasn’t lazy I would provide more names of fighters who would be favored if they fought Cruz. And Cruz is better than Tank’s original opponent choice.
You mentioned Tank Davis as an opponent that Tank Davis should fight. I mean, he's his own worst enemy sometimes, but still...:lol Zepeda's 140lbs. Commey...Well, he did beat an ancient Beltran, and Isa Chianev. I guess that's something.... Luke Campbell is retired, coming off a loss, and overrated. Fortuna can be better, but can be worse. Ultra inconsistent. Garcia's still taking a mental health break. Nakatani's one win of note came against a guy who's greatest hit was against his mistress. Selby's shot, as you say, and his one win of note at lightweight was against an even more shot Burns (and even then it was close). Berchelt's done after getting blasted out by Valdez. Stevenson and Valdez aren't moving up any time soon. Commey and Loma are scheduled to fight. So are Haney and Jojo. None of those guys are able to face Tank on Dec 5th. So, out of those on this list, I guess they could have made an offer to Linares (shot), Selby (shot), Fortuna (coming off a loss to a 130lb fighter), or Cruz (not shot, and on a win streak against serviceable to good opposition). Cruz is the best lightweight that's currently available, and this isn't that close. You are right that Cruz was better than Romero (who kind of ****ing sucks, tbh), but anyone who's taken the time to watch Cruz knows he's actually pretty good, and a legit top 10 guy at lightweight. It's a pretty good match-up and a pretty good fight.
