He’s still a novice but in the public eye, I think the criticism of him is really high. What level do people think he should be at? He only had about 30 amateur fights and got beat 10 times? Realistically he’s right where he should be. Unfortunately for him, his Surname means he’s in the public eye before he’s even learned a tiny bit of his trade.
I think 30 like Ricky had is a bit of an exaggeration but I see what your saying , Ricky did pad his record early on . Fair play to Campbell for giving it a go he’s only a kid and what can he do when you got Eddie Hearn parading him on Sky Sports because of his name. it’s the right decision to be putting him on cards with not to much coverage. He is very raw and will need many many fights to gain experience and improve. The problem is with the style you need some power to go with it maybe he develops power as he matures, but I just can’t see it.
Lucky lad really, boxing at his standard he should have to have a day job to get by, it's a rubbish backstory because of this, "his dad was a World Champion and, er, he's had to overcome the adversity of never needing to get a job and getting some nasty comments on Instagram when he got absolutely battered and schooled by a part time boxer who was paid to take the L, brave boy". Good luck to Campbell and he can't help the life he's been born into, I just don't like being fed rubbish, he's very lucky, very fortunate, I like boxers that come from nothing, that's what speaks to me more.
Could they have found a bigger pastry for him to fight today? LOL. He still looked terrible trying his hardest to get the finish against a guy who showed no resistance.
Was it bad yes ? Feel for the lad he just can’t punch with the style he has it’s not going to help him get very far .
Yeah I don’t even think the opponent was really hurt he looked out of shape and had enough. Hatton can’t set up a clean shot to save his life he is just a scrappy mess and only gets by on his level of fitness. He landed one good clean hook to the body against a stationary target and that wasn’t even the finish.
Very very fortunate. Especially when the likes of Maxi Hughes beat fighters such as Jono Carroll and Straffon but was still working full time as a painter and decorator to make ends meet.
Confirmed that he’s retired. Fair enough and respect for admitting he’s not good enough. Do think Hearn got it all wrong by throwing him straight on PPV shows high up the card.
I do think Eddie really is right time and right place. 2012/Sky/AJ it was the perfect cocktail. Take AJ out he really doesn't have a great record at promoting and building fighters ro the top. Dillian Whyte etc were all able to catch the AJ train. Katie Taylor obviously another, but again Olympics/Ireland. He talks exceptionally but he clearly hasn't got the best eye, and he often totally missed judges stuff. Look at the recent fighters he has put a lot into, he launched Matchroom US to make Danny Jacobs a PPV star. He has some success with Canello, but in reality my dead nan could promote Canello successfully. Hatton is just yet another **** up from MR
Campbell Hatton retiring — fair play to him. He gave it a proper go, but just didn’t have the ability his dad did, and there’s no shame in that. I don’t think Hearn got it wrong. With the Hatton name and the platform Eddie gave him, his profile and earnings ended up far beyond what most could expect — especially for someone who took up boxing relatively late. You’re the exception, not the rule, if you start late and expect to make it to the top. That said, having his uncle as his coach probably wasn’t the ideal setup. And trying to mirror his dad’s style and path may have done more harm than good. But in those family setups, you’re either all in or you’re not in at all. He’s only 24, financially ahead of 99.9% of his peers, and still young enough to start fresh — whether that’s school, business, or something completely different. Boxing wasn’t for him — and unlike Conor, he didn’t have a “Nepo rival” to elevate the brand. He carried it alone… and maybe he was PED-free too.
Good for him and his family. He wasn’t good enough and that’s nothing to be ashamed of. He gave it ago and fought in front of stadium crowds (something which he probably never ought to have been thrust into). Wish him well.
