How much credit would Canelo get if he HAD beaten a smaller, older Mayweather?

I was thinking about that this morning while I was sitting on the toilet.

Let's say Canelo had in fact won their fight, dominated in fact, possibly even scored a late round TKO.

Mayweather was 36 years old, with nearly 20 years in the game at that point, not to mention the smaller man "with no power".

How much credit could we actually have given Canelo for a win like that?

I believe Canelo did more for himself in defeat then he ever could have in victory.

As it stands, no one gives MAYWEATHER any credit for the win, because Canelo was supposedly "too green, too inexperienced " despite having more professional fights then Mayweather at the time they met.

On the flip side, this fight is seen as a turning point in canelos career, from which he began his p4p journey into the heavens.

It's quite a remarkable dynamic when you stop and think about it.

    It is indeed.

Of course it would have helped Canelo immensely. This victory by Mayweather (as much as I hate it ) proves how great Mayweather was.

What I would be interested in is if this forum thinks the current version of Canelo would beat Mayweather. I would say he would - but you still have to give FM credit.

Canelo had 40 pro fights when he fought Mayweather Jr. He should've been ready.
Mayweather Jr. Being the smart business man

He is knew it would be worth the risk to fight
    The very overrated Canelo Alvarez.
A smart and shrewd move by Mayweather Jr.
It enhanced his legacy and put a very big "yeah But". On Alvarez.
If Alvarez was close to being anything close to what some think he is he beats Mayweather Jr.
A much smaller man, with limited power .
If he had defeated May Jr. It would've been seen as a great big man beating a great little man .
    As it should've been seen.
But as it is , Alvarez left the door open to a lot of scrutiny.
The biggest question is if he was great why he couldn't defeat the only true great fighter he's faced when he had all the advantages?
A question Canelo Alvarez's fans refuse to acknowledge.

Floyd took that fight when he knew he would still get the upper hand over a young canelo. He's a totally different fighter now, this is an argument that has been dragged out to death and the GGG thing well that depends how you watched them

Canelo having all those extra pro fights doesn't mean much. Mayweather had that high level amateur career Canelo didn't.

FMJ on the night of his first pro fight had more experience than Canelo did on the night of his 20th pro fight.

Growing up around high level pros didn't hurt either, there's a big advantage going into the family business.
