Jerry Quarry was a quality heavyweight but could not take the top heavyweights of his time It can be argued that he did not actually beat Patterson Might he have fared better in a less talented era such as the early 1900s?? How would he have fared with Jim Jeffries? What I have surmised, Jeff had certain physical advantages over Jerry Jerry although tough, was not great on defense and not the greatest puncher. When he hit Frazier, nothing happened
Maybe they should ask SHAVERS, BODELL, FOSTER, MATHIS, CHUVALO, ELLIS, SPENCER, LYLE, NEUMANN, WOODY, DOYLE, Al Jones, Corletti, London, Carroll, Eastling, Alongi, Mumford, Middleton, Brassell, Guerra, Alexander, Harris, Reno, Patterson, Miteff, Orbillo, Zanon IF QUARRY COULD PUNCH!!!!!!!
Impossible to say. How good was a prime Jeffries and what would he look like in modern times. Big, strong, and athletic in any era. Better than Quarry I think.
Quarry beat 9 ranked contenders and knocked out 5, -2 of those knockouts we're number one contenders. So saying Jerry could not punch does not wash with me, Few Champions in any divison rarely fight 9 ranked guys their entire career much less beat them! Frazier was 10-4 vs top ten. About half of Jerry's knockouts were for the full count, Frazier nor Ali come close to that!
Despite losing money on him on one occasion, I liked Quarry and enjoyed his fights! In the match up, I'd have to go with Jeffries. A better question would be: "Under modern rules, could Quarry last 12 rounds with Jeffries?" That would be a more interesting bet, IMHO.
