Why did mitch halpern commit suicide?

The papers tried to claim it was cause he was depressed over the Gabe Ruelas fight, but I just dont buy it.

 

I don't buy it either. It was probably a "suicide" for a fight that went the other way. That being said, he was a shitty referee

 

I don't know. Richard Greene who refereed the Mancini vs Kim fight committed suicide, tragically along with Kim's mother. It just goes to show how hard refereeing can be

I didn't think he was a bad ref. He let Holyfield get away with some dirty tactics, but I still thought he did a reasonably ok job reffing that fight. Aside from the Ruelas fight and Tyson Holyfield, I didn't see too many of his fights. He was a young guy, dont know how many big fights he actually reffed in

Speaking of terrible referees, Alex Garcia vs Bernard Benton was horrific. The ref was a guy named Roger Yanez. Garcia pumelled Benton
mercilessly. Colin Cowherd (the sports host on Fox Sports) and Mitch Halpern were roommates back then when they were all young and single. I've heard Cowherd talk about him before. How Halpern used to get all his friends tickets to the big fights. He might have some insight. Not that people like to talk about their friend's suicide.

 

I can’t recall their names, two different refs who allowed the thinking man’s GOAT, Ingemar Johansson, belt the bejesus out of the long since unviable forms of Machen and Patterson.

I couldn’t believe it when I first saw those fights. Bordering on legalised homicide.

 

Police officers and paramedics have a high suicide rate as well

 

Not really fair to speculate that it had anything to do with refereeing or boxing.

We simply don’t know enough about the man to know why he did it, but there was surely more to him than just his job.

They didn't kill themselves together. They just both happened to commit suicide.

Thing is, Green worked fights for seven more months after the Mancini - Kim fight, including Page-Snipes on the Holmes-Witherspoon card. Although I've read, even at the time, that Green was distraught over Kim, I can't help but think that there were more life issues going on. As someone above stated about Mitch, there's more to life than boxing.
