Think I agree with the above, Joey always impressed me as a big sturdy looking LHW , reckon The Marvellous one will find his bet punches having little or no effect on Maxim , after all SRR shots ( when Ray was fresh, in the early rounds ) bounced off him , yea see Maxim as a points winner. keep well.
12 or 15 rounds? 12 suits Marvin more, as the smaller man. I think the outcome of this bout depends if MMH can move enough and prevent Maxim leaning on him to wear him out. I think Maxim would want to jab Marvin, lean on him and tire him out in the clinches. I don't think Joey can hurt Marvin with single shots but he might wear Marvin down. I suspect that Marvin's foot movement is good enough to keep Joey off balance (even make him look ponderous) and is sharp enough to land enough clean shots to outpoint Joey. It's a bit of a balancing act for Marvin; he wants to bank some early rounds and be ahead before Joey's size and strength can tell, but doesn't want to shoot his bolt too early. Marvin on points, in a close one.
Maxim should win this. I'm surprised by how underrated he is. Maxim was very skillful, very strong, very durable, and a full 175 pounder, often fought at 185 pounds and beat good heavyweights.
Patterson was only having his 14th pro fight, aged 19 years old, giving away 10 pounds to Maxim and a huge gap in experience. And the fight was close.
According to Boxrec, Hagler had a reach advantage over Maxim, so he could outjab him. I belive that the supposed fight would be fought a the lightheavy limit of 175 lbs. Hagler would come in something like 162-163 pounds and be my favorite to win a decision. This could be like the first Griffith - Tiger match.
Maxim was rubbish*, but he'd clown Hagler. Hagler had his hands full with a bloated Duran. *As Tonto pointed out, Maxim definitely was NOT rubbish.
Rubbish? Maxim beat; Walcott Bivins Murphy Mills Bolden Satterfield Oma Tandberg Burman Sheppard Walker Lesnevich
I was harsh. But the dude's skills weren't anything special. This content is protected What am I supposed to be impressed by here? Robinson looks magnificent. But what is appealing about Maxim? Strong dude, very fit. Full disclosure, while I think the severe heat played a part, I think Ray simply punched himself out. It had been sometime since he'd fought a much bigger man than himself. I think this had a similar shading as the LaMotta rematch, where he opted to brawl a bigger man, when he should have Boxed. This content is protected Again, what am I supposed to be impressed with? I was wrong to say rubbish. But I am not as high on Maxim as many are.
