obviously not the same. Against Wlad he had nothing to lose, only to win. He knew that it might even be his last chance at a payday, with his positive test hanging over his head. Later against Wilder the same thing. He was the challenger, twice! Nothing to lose, only to win. Then eventually he had to fight the rematch, that he obviously didn't wanted to do, eventhough he now was the clear favorite. Against Whyte he has a lot to lose... He is the huge favorite, and is expected to win easily. So his legacy and reputation are on the line. Also the Usyk fight/payday, gone if he loses. His mythical lineal belt, on the line... If he drops the WBC belt, he still has the Ring belt and that ESPN promoted "lineal" thing. The Usyk fight would still be there, but just not for the undisputed mark. So, a sudden Whyte left hook can derail his entire legacy and his biggest payday. Of course it's unlikely Whyte would win, and he is nothing compared to even 2015 Wlad, but the circumstances make it dangerous. Certainly if it's on a Matchfixroom card, because let's face it, there's a very good chance that would happen.
Fury has nothing to gain by beating a bum like Whyte, no prestige, no credit, no kudos ... so, he wants to get paid a hefty lion's share. Whyte has everything to gain. Problem is, he can't win, so they are trying to maximize their end for the big cashing out.
Why ? Everything can happen in that fight. Fury looked very beatable in his last fight and "you only as good as your latest fight" - Tyson Fury
Sure. It is true Fury looked to be in poor form in the 3rd Wilder fight, compared to the 2nd one especially. Still he looked good enough and tough enough to beat a fighter of Whyte's calibre. Whyte has struggled just about every time he stepped up to even a fringe world level. He'd likely suffer a bad beating. Of course, yes, you are right. Anything can happen. It is just very unlikely.
I assume they don't want it going to purse bids because they don't want to risk the 55:45 split. So instead he is threatening to drop the belt. Strange move, though. This should be an easy win and an easy pay day for Fury. Dropping the belt means delaying his next big pay day, and he might find himself on the outside waiting for undisputed to be settled.
I'm not sure he'll drop the belt at all. I kind of doubt it. But I think his status is recognized, regardless of the belt. He could definitely disregard the belt and still be recognized as the champion. I remember hearing Eddie Hearn talking about how he might just ignore the belts, how the sanctioning bodies and their fees were a pain in the ass, how boxing fans will still buy the big star fighters regardless of the belts. But Fury is one of the few fighters I can actually imagine doing that. He is giving the WBC their credibility at this point, not the other way round. If he gives up the WBC belt there's a good chance it lands back with Wilder, and no one in their right mind would think the belt is worth more than a beltless Fury.
E-Hearn and Whyte need to know their place and not overestimate Whyte's value. They're trying to make out this is a King and a prince type situation but Whyte is not and has never been royalty. King Tyson Fury is the King and he earned his crown by travelling to the kingdom of the King and slaying the King on the battlefield. He also slayed the queen in her queendom three times too. The only royalty to be found in the sport's glamour division is King Tyson and King Oleksandr The Great, E-Hearn has been relegated to the role of the court jester since the defeat of King Anthony at The Battle of Tottenham at the hand of King Oleksandr The Great and Whyte is a mere hungry pauper begging for a seat at the King's banquet. I’d prefer Fury-Whyte by far. That’s a more dangerous and fun fight. Joshua has a dull personality and he’s coming off a one-sided loss. Whyte will bring the fight and has the balls to go out on his shield. I give him a better chance of landing the big punches against Fury than the hesitant and predictable Joshua.
Fury can do what he wants, when he wants, how he wants. He doesnt care about members of this forum and the usual cry baby chat of "Duck", "Knocked Down By Cunningham", "Not in top 20 heavyweights unless he beats X, Y & Z" etc.etc What ever fury does or doesnt do gets so many triggered on here it's comical. The man although not perfect inside and out of the ring has achieved so much and is in total control of his own destiny and path in life. Doesnt matter what he does the masses will put up another hoop for him to jump thro or roadblock to try and diminish what he as done. It brilliant to read and typical of the social side of this sport which is made up of negative, spiteful and what essentially comes down to is jealousy.
For now its a negotiation tactic but it would not surprise. Fury doesnt seem eager to defend his title and he doesnt seem to like regular fights. Its either high risk high reward of low risk low reward from him. I think his heart he would rather fight AJ or Chisora. Not the likes of whyte, joyce or usyk.
In the event of Fury vacating, the WBC would likely order Whyte vs Wallin for the vacant Heavyweight title.
It's basically just Fury being Fury. He's saying he will ditch the WBC title at the moment; but by this time next week, he'll probably express great interest in defending the WBC title and in fighting Whyte next April.
