At the beginning of the Floyd Patterson - Oscar Bonavena video on YouTube, as Don Dunphy introduces the telecast, we see the final 35 seconds of a preliminary bout. The bout goes to a decision. Out of curiosity I looked up the card on Boxrec and saw that Jimmy Young won a decision over Jasper Evans that night.

So what I think we’ve got here is a bit of footage of an early Jimmy Young fight, as well as another 45 seconds of the bout’s aftermath. The footage cuts before the decision is read, and there is no indication of who the fighters are (scoreboard, names on robes, trunks, or cornerman sweaters), but I’m pretty sure the fighter in the white trunks is Young.

Boxrec lists a Wendell Newton TKO right before the Patterson-Bonavena main event, but I know that Boxrec doesn’t always list bouts in the order they happened, and besides, the bout shown obviously goes to a decision.

I’m a little curious here. Not butthurt, just curious. I feel like I maybe uncovered part of an early fight involving a seventies heavyweight many posters are a fan of.

Yeah, the clip is short. Yeah, it’s been there all along hiding in plain sight. I did a search of the forum before I posted and it’s never been talked about, as far as I can tell. I’m just surprised there was no interest. Is it something everyone knew about already? Or is it just something nobody really cares about? If that’s the case, it’s okay. Carry on and enjoy your holidays.
