Warrington has gone backwards since rejoining Hearn. He left Frank as their journey had come to an end, as he was unable to secure the big US fights/unifications that Josh wanted against LSC, GRJ & Stevenson etc. Eddie gave it the big talk and said he would be able to get those fights due to DAZN and has failed completely. Josh had to vacate his own hard earned belt to avoid a rematch with Galahad, which was actually pushed for by Hearn when he thought it would put the boots into Warren again. After the Xu fight failed to happen, Eddie then books a mexican banger that nobody has ever heard of, let’s the guy wear Reyes gloves and he proceeds to beat the crap out of him. They got lucky to escape in the rematch as Lara was starting to land with the power shots. So now we have Josh with no belt, and still talking about big US fights, with Hearn having zero ability to make them. Its more likely Eddie will send him to Spain to fight Kiko for the IBF- a fight Warren already made for him in 2017.
He sure has and I thought it was a good thing for Warrington joining Matchroom. It's been a disaster and has pretty much ended his career at the highest level. Hearn has pretty much ruined the good work that Warren had done with Warrington which is a shame as it looked like Warrington was gonna fight the big guns at 126 at one stage.
Warren did a great job for Warrington... world title fight at Elland Road and a huge defence against Frampton. Hearn promised him the earth, persuaded him to drop his belt and now I can’t see where he goes from here.
What's next for him? Frankly who cares? I lost all respect for him after he deliberate cheated his way out of the Lara re-match via a headbutt. 3 rounds in and it was clear Josh would not and could not adapt to fighting on the backfoot effectively and working his way in. He was getting hit with big shots and the fight was beginning to look like a re-run of the the first contest. It was clear to me he just could not handle Lara's power and there was only going to be one outcome. Josh's pride (and arrogance) would not allow him to take a dignified loss, so he blatantly headbutted Lara causing the fight to be stopped. It ruined what would have been a great fight, as although the outcome was not in doubt for me, he could have fought on, asked some questions and made it competitive. Instead he took the cowards way out, and to add insult to injury he made some disgracefully comments afterwards along the lines of 'I don't know how I lost to him he's so bad'. You lost to him because he beat you to a pulp!
The best looking and most sophisticated man in the city of Leeds explains that Warrington couldn't fight Lara because of his cut. Lara fights before Warrington's next fight. This content is protected
I was in two minds about the cut issue (deliberate or not) until I saw this. Didn't realise Lara was fighting again so soon. It might have been that the cut's ready enough for a tune-up but not to match a contender. Either way, it doesn't smell at all good. It's a smart promotional / management move to get Josh up for the title in Leeds, but Lara should really be getting that shot v Martinez. It's rare I back a foreign fighter vs a Brit, but I'll be rooting for Kiko this time out.
So will I, and for precisely the same reasons. The way Josh has conducted himself in the build up to the re-match, in the fight itself and after it too (saying again and again I can't believe how I lost to him and laughing etc) has been disgraceful. He cheated his way out of a fight he was probably about to lose judging by the power shots going in the first 3 rounds and then had the arrogance to say how awful Lara was and act like he is above him- when Lara demolished him just a few months before that. Very poor form, and showed a total lack of class and self awareness.
Doesn't Warrington have to shoulder at least some portion of the blame? Everyone loves to stick the boot in with promoters, sometimes I think the fighters role gets overlooked.
They were hoping to get a big fight at the time xu ca With the issues with can xu (who was highly thought of with the ring magazine at the time) and wba at the time he ended up in a tick over that ultimately balls up all the plans for bigger fights. Taking lara lightly has cost him big time. The Kiko fight is now a rebuild to potentially bigger fights. If he loses basically his career is over. If he wins his first fight should b lara. Kiko chose jw cause he brings the bigger purse over lara. Like it or not.
