Benn vs Avanesyan

I personally prefer Benn vs Broner just because I cant stand Broner and I'd love to see Benn batter him.

Apart from that though, I agree it makes more sence accomplishment wise to fight Avanesyan - a legit top 10, holds repectable wins and has EBU title.

That said I can see why Hearn is taking him the Broner route - most likely the easier fight of two and more exposure for his potential star in a bigger earning fight.

 

Benn is still learning on the job in fairness. He has come on and is getting better too. Broner makes sense to anyone at that weight if they can get him in the ring. Is a big name, is shot but is young enough to market as a non shot fighter. If Benn can get him next then good luck to him, hope he does.

 

Thats right. I wish the emphasis on protecting the zero would go.

If anyone has seen Broner of late, his heart isn't in the game and he's just a strange guy in general. He barely scraped past Jovanie Santiago in his last outing who is barely journeyman standard (i had him losing by 1) and he barely let's his hands go when in the ring these days.

 

It rarely gets mentioned (I believe Jurgen did on the previous page) but Conor has now had 20 fights.

He won't get significantly better or learn anything new by fighting Broner who is a joke at this stage, or another 2-3 version of Algieri. He's 25 and 20 fights is enough of a learning curve to step up to Euro and/or fringe world level. Waiting and learning has to be balanced against what can be gained from (finally) having a real test and then benefiting from where that takes you.

At this stage he needs a tough fight, he needs to be asked questions he has not been asked before, apart from his very early career which is now behind him.

Avanesyan if not next, should be the one after so he should fight him in 2022.

One of the main reasons I say that is that if Conor at his physical peak and 20/21 fights in can not beat Avanesyan who is a fringe world level fighter a notch or two below the elite, then arguably he's not going to win a world title anyway!

Nothing to lose in that case even in defeat, he will still have a good career financially speaking and there are still numerous fights out there for him.

 

Conor Benn is one of DAZN's biggest stars right now so Eddie Hearn will do anything to protect his "0".

 

Great fight and I actually think Benn beats Avanesyan.

I like what Benn is doing at the moment investing his own time into building his brand, he’s entertaining and gives it all in the ring I feel like the UK public should get behind him

The problem is I don’t see how he wins really. He’s not heavy handed enough to flatten Ava and his relentless pressure would be too much I feel, and Benn would wilt.

 

I think you have all been blinded by the fight you want rather than the fight that makes more sense for Conor which is what really matters. The Broner fight makes so much more sense from a commercial perspective Broner is a big draw in this country and the states. Casuals don't know he is washed up and will be attracted to the name. The build up will be brilliant too and it allows Benn to continue developing at a lower risk, whilst building his profile. Avanesyan is high risk and doesn't carry a name the casuals know I wouldn't risk it if I was Conors promoter. He is still young and relatively inexperienced when broner prices himself out of the fight pick another fighter a little past it who is well known to continue building with the bigger fights in a years time.

 

I don't think it matters if benn never fights Avanesyan. He should be looking at Broner then brook v Khan winner or loser.

Benn will probably need another 2 years before he fights for a world title. He would be 27 then and in his physical prime.
