Can fury have any historical relevance being in such a weak era?

It's a question one must ask considering he presides over the worst era in heavyweight boxing history.

This is an era in which a bodybuilder with very little boxing ability, questionable heart, pitiful endurance and a whole host of other physical frailties became "the guy" for multiple years.

An era where a record paddler like Chisora rose to PPV stardom

Where a gym sweeper like dillian Whyte is arguably top 5

Let's not mince our words, AJ wouldn't be top 20 in any other era, and Chisora and Whyte? They'd be so lowly nobody would ever hear their names.

I don't know about you, but in light of those facts I can't rate fury at all.

Even the klitschko he fought was degraded to the point he couldn't even beat Joshua 2 years later, considering that fact I have to say klitschko must only have been 10% in that fight, so let's be generous and say Fury beat a 3x better version, because the version he beat was multiple times better, a 30% klitschko.

My surmation is that Fury, ruling over the most pathetically dreadful division in the history of boxing can't rate in the top 50 of heavyweights.

Pinklon Thomas would be undisputed in 2021, Earnie Terrel would also, they'd be unbeatable vs today's division.

Considering this fact, Fury's achievements and titles don't mean anything at all to me. I just hope the next generation might be better, and have some historical relevance.

James "Quick" Tillis would be better than any opponent fury could find in this era though.

I think a prime Dwight Muhammed Quawi could move up to heavyweight and fill Whyte and AJ in also.

It's hard to tell how good Fury actually is.

He looked very impressive in the 2nd Wilder fight but I really don't rate Wilder at all.
Wilder's resume is absolutely dreadful. He's got a big right hand but has fought bum after bum his whole career.

Fury is certainly one of the best around in a bad era. But for me I think Usyk beats him even with the massive weight and height difference. And if Usyk does pull it off I think Fury's legacy will disappear as quickly as Joshua's

How can you call this a weak era? I've enjoyed a lot more heavyweight fights than when vitali and wladimir were beating everyone.

I think a motivated fury does very well in the 90s. I Don't know why Joshua is getting as much stick as well. He could have given up the wbo belt but decided to test himself against usyk.

Wilder is unknown but undoubtedly hits very hard. A few fringe contenders as well with Joyce, dubois, hrgovic and yoka all on there way to fight. I think it's in good shape

Also don't forget a lot of what went on in the 90s era. Bowe throwing a belt in the bin to avoid lennox Lewis. Tommy morrison

    Continued

Tommy morrison was very unprofessional in his build up to fights. George forman won a belt at nearly 50 years old. You can **** on any era.

No way Joshua could have given up the belt. He would lose all credibility.

Fury is one of our best, ever. An awesome fighter with all the ingredients required to compete in any era of boxing.

This era is quite weak overall but Fury is without doubt far superior to anything in it , you can only beat what's there like Klitschko did for years on end.

I think what people don't get with current heavyweight boxing is the fact that they are giants of men , most now make Lewis look like a cruiserweight the current top 5 would stand a chance in any era due to that alone.

Plus a shitload of crack, cocaine, and booze. That era could have been even better had the drugs not ravaged a lot of fighters

This 100 times, Tyson raised the profile of the sport and in particular the division and with that came huge bucks and huge temptations. Lewis v McCall 2 is a fine example of how messed up things could get, a World Title fight and he's out of his mind.
