I suppose Holyfield vs. Tyson? They were both past it when they fought.

Ortiz doesn’t believe a lack of training cost him any fight. He said he was always in tremendous shape and treated every fight seriously. He believes conditions in Panama were made hard for him (possible food poisoning/reaction to water?) and found himself over weight and having to sweat the excess off.

At the time they fought, George Dixon and Terry McGovern were probably the two best bantamweights and featherweights that had ever lived.

And you could include McGovern against Gans too.

Maybe Wilfredo Gomez vs Salvador Sanchez> Gomez definitely GOAT at 122. Maybe some people argue Sanchez as GOAT vs 126,

Edit: Oops it had been said already

Obviously it wasn't just through what I said, I was just overstating it a bit. I remember an old interview years back where he mentioned the difficult conditions, having to lose weight quickly etc like you say he said. I think I recall him saying that he was blowing his purses from fights quickly in the casino and on drink even during in his title reign and that he took Laguna lightly in the first fight, although tbf not that a lack of training was responsible. Always seemed to me like he was able to train to a high level, retain his ridiculous physique and make the weight all while still abusing his body in between fights.

Yes, he did have problems with booze, gambling, and later business ventures that didn’t work.
