Could Joe Calzaghe Have Lasted 15 Rounds, Against Moore or Foster??

No Foster would have torn him up with the jab and since JC wasn't a huge puncher I think Bob would be more aggressive.
I think his southpaw style would trouble Bob.
I also don't think Foster doesn't knock JC out-
I think his jab cuts up JC and forces a stoppage due to cuts.
Moore not sure. Haven't really watched him alot but if he can drop Rocky he more then likely will drop JC at some point.

 

I don't think Calzaghe would have gone the 15 rounds because he would have knocked both of them out. Kidding, just kidding. The Calzaghe of the early 2000s was a really good boxer and possessed both offensive and defensive skills. So yes, he could have lasted but I don't think he would have. Foster would have stopped him early and Moore would have stopped him late.

In fairness to him, we never saw the limits of his chin, and it appears to be pretty good.

 

That's a fair assessment. We didn't see the extent of Haglers but that has no bearing on my opinion that an average heavy would shatter him.

He was a durable fighter as proven by his long career and unbeaten record. But he only fought two bouts at 175 in which he was decked in both fights against older men. Prime versions of Moore and Foster might have capitalized on that and finished what those other two could not.

 

Sure, but then you had guys like Walker and Toney, who could take a sledgehammer to the chin.

It is hard to know whether Hagler and Golovkin fall into the same category, or whether they would have got smashed when they stepped up!

 

Yes he could see the final bell, he had great stamina. In fact going past 12 might give him an advantage in certain fights

Joe Calzaghe was an excellent fighter, he had stamina to go 15 rounds which isn’t something we can say about all the top fighters from the 2000s onwards, but I am mega confident Calzaghe could have lasted the 15 rounds comfortably in most eras. Very fit fighter.

But Bob Foster was deemed good enough by his team to mix with elite heavyweights of his era (an extremely good era), it didn’t go to plan on either obviously but the fact he was even in the ring with them being a much smaller guy against Frazier and Ali shows how good of a fighter Foster must have been.

Yes Calzaghe did have to drain a bit of weight to make 168, but could you imagine Joe Calzaghe even getting in the ring with a cruiserweight let alone a heavyweight of his era, it would be inconceivable. Could I imagine Joe Calzaghe being able to last 8 rounds with Ali even with the knockdowns, no. Bob Foster was a bigger guy than Calzaghe I think it’s fair to say, but Foster never really gets the credit he is due for how good he truly was.

Archie Moore was a freak he could compete and be dominant at light heavyweight and mix it with very good heavyweights, again naturally bigger, but extremely gifted.

Calzaghe was a natural super middleweight, and could compete against most at Light heavyweight, but against Foster and Moore, no.

At the very elite level, Calzaghe would be at an extreme disadvantage against those two, naturally bigger men, with enough power to mix at heavyweight, I wouldn’t fancy many natural super middleweight from the 2000s being able to compete with those two. As good as Joe chin was, he was floored against Mitchell at around his peak, if Foster or Moore nail him him he’s either not getting up, or getting stopped shortly afterwards.

As much as I respect Calzaghe those guys are too big, too strong and have too much power for anybody to pick Calzaghe to really challenge them, could he survive maybe, but I think it would be highly unlikely and probably need a career best performance to do so.

 

Foster would knock him out in 1 round.

 

He was a great fighter and slippery AF. I think that not only would he have gone the distance but given a good account of himself as well.
