He has already been mentioned but with a lot more dedication Kirkland Laing could have reached the very top
Rod Douglas who unfortunately had to retire after a brain injury when challenging Herol Graham for the British title. So not a "wasted" talent but much more so a talent that wasn't fulfilled due to bad circumstances. 4 x ABA champion, the only man to defeat Nigel Benn between 81-89 , also beat Michael Watson and won Commonwealth Gold. Also remember seeing footage of him and Eubank having a very lively spar in the late 80s. Definitely could have carved out an interesting and successful pro career for himself had he not had the unfortunate injury. Him and Benn also had a real distaste for each other as well and back in the 80s, many were looking forward to them getting it on as pro's.
Gotta love these forums. Blokes dribbling Tesco lager on to their Dunelm sofas whilst explaining how Naz and Fury have let themselves down.
Some in my opinion are Scott Harrison Kostas Petrou Frankie Gavin Kirkland Laing Some of these guys I know personally and I know the potential they had. There are some things you can't teach such as a great chin, heart but some of these guys needed the right training and guidance to reach their full potential and unfortunately they either never got that. Some of these guys did get the best training but lost motivation along the way, either way, the potential was there.
Again, often in the same fight or even in the same round. Degale could be in complete control of a round and then, for some inexplicable reason, retreat to the ropes and stay there for the final minute of a round. Watching that version of Degale really was an infuriating experience.
Bradley Saunders springs too mind Frankie Gavin Tom stalker ? Or was he just not that good Paddy Barnes
Tom Stalker comfortably losing to Sean Dodd still baffles me, outboxed him too, wtf was that all about?
