Awful opponent. Hammer looked terrible against Hughie Fury, quit and that was only like 2 months ago.
Two fights between undefeated heavyweights added to the Martin-Ortiz event on Saturday: Geovany Bruzon (Cuba age 24) 6-0 vs Lenier Pero (Cuba age 29) 5-0 Steven Torres (USA age 23) 5-0 vs. James Evans (USA age 29) 4-0 https://boxrec.com/en/event/843292
Anyone know if this Pero is any good? He has a pretty good amateur record, doesn't seem to have much power though
Based on past history I am 97% certain that this fight will be in the books for a month and get cancelled.
Yep. Ortiz will remain in PBC in house events. I fully expect Andy Ruiz to change his tune about the prospect of an Ortiz fight.
Earlier today, Luis Ortiz and Filip Hrgovic were given three days to accept the IBF's invitation to enter talks for a final eliminator. It wasn't on most people's radar screens, but one of the bouts on the Ortiz/Martin card was a 4-round HW bout between Steven Torrez (6' 7", 23 years old) and James Evans (6' 5", 29 years old). The fight ended in a draw. I am mentioning this because both fighters are well-regarded USA prospects who were undefeated (Torrez: 5-0, Evans: 4-0) heading into the fight. It's a rare good thing when two prospects are willing to risk their "0" so early in their careers, rather than spending a few years padding their records with hopeless "opponents". Boxing - particularly USA boxing - would benefit from other fighters following that example.
