We saw Usyk batter AJ who most would agree is far more skilled than an aging chisora. So why did Usyk struggle against chisora? was it a mismatch in style? My theory is that Usyk was holding back on chisora and waiting to show his true talent against AJ.
Usyk was probably better prepared against Joshus but it's mostly just style. Chisora took it to Usyk and roughed him up early. Juicua tried to box Usyk and got humiliated. Thats basically it
Very hard to do anything against a raging sexually active Chisora ask Whyte, Usyk knew all he had to do was avoid him a little early doors then start to pick him off which is what he did. Against AJ, Usyk was very tuned in, he started very fast and was using his feet quite a lot maybe expecting AJ to come after him a little which AJ didn't. He then dropped the pace and got into his rhythm which allowed AJ to come a little into it mid fight, then AJ slowed and Usyk dominated him.
An elite A level world Champion ticking over in a glorified spar doing just enough to not scare off Team Joshua. Played to perfection.
Chisora isn't a bum he often gives opponents problems even when losing. Even when Haye KO'ed him he was giving Haye a competitive fight before getting stopped. Yes Usyk is elite level but I think people's expectations were simply too high, you lose 3 rounds and suddenly you're struggling. Much like how Vitali supposedly struggled with Chisora or Lewis struggled with Mavrovic. It was simply the case of the favourite not being as dominant as people expected and then suddenly the favourite struggled.
Agree with this. Usyk was putting rounds in thus playing 4-D chess as not too scare the competition off.
I still don't understand this narrative. Usyk handily beat Chisora; at worst winning 116-112. He knew Chisora would exert a lot of energy early on so he gave away the first 2 rounds, similar to what you see Mayweather do. I scored it 117-111 Usyk, giving Chisora rounds 1, 2, and I believe it was 10? There was a later round where I thought he did enough to win it. Chisora is a guy who has a ton of losses, so people think he isn't that good. When in reality, just about every loss of his was to top level guys or it was a controversial/close decision. Usyk nearly had him out late in that fight but decided to be cautious given Chisora's power. Not to mention, some of the UK fighters really skewed the narrative (Bellew) with how "close" it was. Admittedly, I am a fan of both, but a bigger Usyk fan. Trying to put my bias aside here, I didn't think that fight was difficult to score or particularly close. I felt it was an 9-3/10-2 type fight where if you wanted to be generous to Chisora, you could probably stretch it to 8-4. Usyk looked timid in the first 2 rounds so I think it caused people to judge him more harshly.
Yep that's how I saw it too. I gave Chisora 2 rounds, 3 rounds tops and Chisora is my favourite heavyweight.
AJ is way more predictable where as Chisora is all over the place. Plus he was probably still adapting to his new weight under the lights and scrutiny.
