Whyte’s team, including promoter Hearn, are furious with the WBC’s decision and have launched another arbitration against them. And Hearn expects that to kybosh the purse bids that were scheduled for Mexico City on January 11. The Matchroom boss said: “There is a lot going on legally behind the scenes with Dillian and the WBC, we are not at all happy with the 80-20 split ruling and there is a process now that we have to go through to object. “He would accept it once an arbitration or court has taken place because he feels very strongly. “He feels 80-20 is not fair but if the Court of Arbitration decides it is then I think he will proceed. “The offers that have come to Dillian so far have not been acceptable. But the number we bid at purse bids probably will be, so he is in no rush to take unfair deals.
If Fury wanted this fight I don't think 70-30 would be unreasonable. To say 80-20 I believe means he doesn't want the fight and has other plans.
What other plans, though? Usyk and Joshua are fighting each other. Haye? Kabayel? Wilder IV? Ortiz? WWE? Chisora III? Retirement? Battle of the cousins? I mean, really? What the hell is on the horizon for the man? I love the guy, but I am really sick of the ****.
It's the WBC that has ruled on the amount. I've no idea if Fury wants the fight or not but the purse split has nothing to do with him.
Fury isn't a massive draw in America he does not deserve 80-20. That's WBC being complicit in attempting protect Fury. Fury did decent numbers but against Wilder. What were his numbers against Wallin and the like? Whyte at least deserves 30-35%. Yeah he got knocked out by a 40 to Povetkin but he was in several risky entertaining fights prior and that does deserve some credit. Say what you like about Chisora, Rivas and Parker.. But they are all tough fights. They all come to win, unlike, you guessed it, all of Canelo's fights post GGG. All Fury has done is outbox a right handed basketballer three times. Yeah he looked damn good in the second fight but like I said his resume isn't all that and he is not a massive edraw.
Good to hear Whyte will take the fight regardless. Hopefully they rule quick, give him a few quid extra and the fight gets turned around quickly.
With any luck Fury puts Whyte to sleep decisively and we will hear no more about this so called bogeyman
Not completely true. They could agree whatever split they like this ruling by the WBC is only in regards to it going to purse bids. Though obviously this ruling benefits him and probably makes him more inclined to not negotiate and let it go to purse bids as he'll be paid more. I too have no idea if he wants the fight or not. All the talk of other possible opponents being lined up is just your usual negotiating tactic. I don't see any reason why he would be scared to fight Whyte when he's clearly the favourite. But then again maybe he's just not motivated to fight Whyte as he sees it as a foregone conclusion. Fury is very inconsistent and I think that's all down to his motivation levels which I think can vary wildly.
I think that yeah, he wants to get paycheck. Question now is, who is his promoter and manager? Since manager and boxer's promoter gets %, they too does have impact in purse negotiations. More = more money in their pockets.
Yes, Fury can refuse all money, technically. That's all in the negotiation which Fury might outright deny, at which point, he has refused to take anything less than 80%. But the WBC issued 80/20 is nothing to do with Tyson Fury.
I dont disagree with most of what you are saying, but Fury is now a star in America. Outside of Canelo he may be the most recognizable boxer to the typical sports fan. At least that is the case from what I have experienced socially. Fury's name recognition would be far better than Crawford or Spence in my opinion for the average American.
Take the fight and **** off everone involved....then see Fury get an "injury" and pull out of the fight entirely.
